1. The absolute fastest way I know of (at 28000 geo/hour) is hunting hoppers below the colosseum. For it to be actually the fastest way, it requires a fair bit of gear though; in the very least you'll need all nail arts and the best nail upgrade, so I guess you can ignore this one for now, especially since it's not that much faster than the second and third fastest ways.
2. The second fastest way is running in circles in the City of Tears, starting from the bench slightly to the right and above the statue of the Hollow Knight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foteL57nE2s&t=4s
This nets around 25000 geo/hour if you do it right. The downside is it's kinda boring since the circle is quite small; you'll be doing the same thing over and over.
3, The third fastest way is repeating the Trial of the Conqueror over and over. It's also around 24000 geo/hour. Personally, I found this less boring than running the City of Tears, since the Trial of the Fool takes much longer to complete. It's also less gear dependent: as long as you can beat the trial reliably, you should be getting >20k per hour.
Haven't really been up to the arena yet. So haven't even finished the first challenge. So i'll probably try the first method. I have the game on switch so I can easily do mindless grinding stuff in handheld mode while watching a movie or something. Once I get into the rythym of it I can do this stuff without needing to look at the screen much.
