Does Abyss Shriek hit three times or four?

The wiki states that Abyss Shriek hits four times for a total of 80 damage (or 120 with the Shaman Stone charm), but I've only ever heard three THWACK sounds at most...well, unless it's hitting more than one enemy, anyway.
This has been bothering me for a while now, and I just now decided to test it, and it doesn't look good.
So, the Great Husk Sentry. They have 170 health (according to the wiki), are immune to knockback, and there's one on a bridge that I easily nuke from below.
First, I tested it without Shaman Stone. I cast Abyss Shriek twice, then finished him off with my Pure Nail - it took 3 hits.
Then, I tested it with Shaman Stone. One Abyss Shriek and four nail hits were enough to kill him.

These results are consistent with Abyss Shriek hitting only three times. Can anyone use some sort of debugging tool to figure out exactly how much damage Abyss Shriek can do?

Can't confirm it, but if that's true, that's good info. Yet another reason to use Shade Soul over Abyss Shriek on sufficiently large enemies (or enemies vulnerable to knock-back).

Abyss Shriek can hit up to 4 times (and does so most of the time, for me at least), but I have also previously noticed that in some cases it only hits 3 times. While I haven't tested this extensively, it seems to happen regardless of the target's size (False Knight can sometimes receive only 3 hits, for example). The damage values themselves are correct, so the total damage is 80/120, but you can also lose a hit for some reason and only deal 60/90.

I've noticed that sometimes the attack is ended early if you move while you use it. If you hold still it seems as if it lasts longer and does a few more hit. I can't confirm if this is actually the case but that's what I've observed.

If the enemy is in the shriek range I find it hits four times.
