Like the bench is IN the challenge room itself?
I remember learning from watching someone make the same mistake in a stream I was watching a while back that you don't want to place benches in battle arenas. Even if it doesn't mess with your game files, it can cause a soft lock and make you have to reset the game entirely. The case I saw was with a certain other kind of battle arena though, the last pantheon.
Potentially in the spoiler case (but not in Colo for reasons that will be obvious in the next spoiler), getting stuck and not being able to leave might be fixed by leaving a pantheon by using dream gate and then warping back to the bench... I think?
I'm not sure if I'm remembering the the warping back part correctly. I saw this in a comment on the stream from someone who seemed to know what they were talking about. Unfortunately the streamer missed that comment and didn't try it out. I'm really curious about how true this is, but I have no reason to place benches in new places.
I see what you did there.
It works at the expense of removing my mods, adding the mods back brings the problem back for me
