Beating the big guys with clubs that send a shockwave after you isn't required. You can skip them for now if you want, but I'd suggest coming back later as they tend to guard things.
People come onto the board talking about how they got lost (I'm used to metroidvanias so that wasn't an issue for me), some have trouble with difficult platforming (also not an issue for me), but boss fights? That was my weakness coming into this game.
I remember having to learn when (and how best) to attack, if/when to dodge, and notice the pattern while not being so distracted learning all of these things at once (or trying to panic heal) that you don't realize the pattern exists in the first place.
