This game is confusing me
And also making me so so so freakin salty. I got no idea where to go in this game. It's hard to collect the souls cause I keep dying. I'm used to the map, but finding out where to go and what to do to progress is hard. Someone HALP XD. I just beat the room with the giant mosquito I think it is? I also found the bug guy that will help me travel, but above and beyond that I dunno how to get the skills etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you in forgotten crossroads? If so, Try exploring the places Cornifer has already mapped in (especially rooms with a symbol on them), it might guide you towards progress (in wich case you might want to explore further).

Also, 🉑 rezno[R] made a save file analysis tool which comes with hints for progress : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2209910193&searchtext=save+file

Hollow Knight is a Metroidvania game, meaning that getting lost is a part of the game. But perseus is right, explore the areas which look interesting on the map.

Why did you save Zote? That bastard must die.

You're supposed to be confused, and not know what to do, don't think that the game will just give you skills, you'll progress at your own pace, don't be so hasty, explore every single location there is in Hollownest, look on your map and explore the rooms you haven't been to yet, it's a huge kingdom with a lot of places to go, so don't just expect to get all the skills instantly, take your time exploring the kingdom, slowly uncovering the story of Hollownest while defeating bosses.

Yep, get lost, keep exploring, use map pins to mark the suspicious areas you want to come back to when you find a new ability. You're only just starting out. You'll get better at the game as you play.

I'm guessing to get skills I have to beat either false hollow knight first? He seems easiest. And thanks for the explanation random I've known about metroidvania for a while but never knew exactly what it meant till now. Am I also suppose to beat those big bodyguard type guys with a big giant hammer too as well?

Getting past False Knight will put you on the path to your first new ability, yes. Not all of the abilities you can get are gated behind bosses though. Some you can just find out in the world. You also won't necessarily need every ability to finish the game, but it certainly helps to have them all.

Beating the big guys with clubs that send a shockwave after you isn't required. You can skip them for now if you want, but I'd suggest coming back later as they tend to guard things.

To progress through the game, False Knight is the first boss you need to defeat along with Gruz Mother all though gruz mother isn't as important as false knight.

Alrighty, sounds good. So die lots to false knight, rage a lot, win finally and progress. Sounds good to me XD.

Congrats, you just describe a metroidvania game

False Knight is probably the easiest fight in the game

Once you learn how to fight him, of course he's easy (especially with a dash), but I had my first bunch of deaths trying to get past him as a new player. He was not so easy for me at first.

People come onto the board talking about how they got lost (I'm used to metroidvanias so that wasn't an issue for me), some have trouble with difficult platforming (also not an issue for me), but boss fights? That was my weakness coming into this game.

I remember having to learn when (and how best) to attack, if/when to dodge, and notice the pattern while not being so distracted learning all of these things at once (or trying to panic heal) that you don't realize the pattern exists in the first place.
