Lore Theory Part 1 - The False Knight

DISCLAIMER: After further research, I worked out that this theory is wrong.
I'll remake it better, later.
Until then, here's my incorrect lore.


So, I spent a while thinking about this, and came up with something pretty good.
I'm not so good at explaining things in words, but I'll try my best.
I haven't been playing for very long, so this is going off of the amount of stuff that I know.
Also, read through before going into the replies and screaming "wRoNg1!1!1!".
You might need to re-read a few times too.

Once, there was a happy little group of maggots, one was the (Failed) Champion, and he was one of the five great knights.
His name was Hegemol.
Then, the infection came along, and infected ONE maggot.
One.
That one infected maggot was a lot stronger, due to being infected, and attacked the Champion, while he was outside of the armor or sleeping or something.
This champion is now dying and infected, and the first infected maggot steals the armor.
He's not the real knight, so he's called The False Knight.
Meanwhile, as The False Knight runs around in his little arena stepping on travellers, the other grubs carry away the body of the Champion, and lock it away with them in a little sealed away room, that hopefully nobody will find.
They set up candles, and make the room look nice.
Then, the body's infection spreads to them.
They're now infected too.
When you walk in, they look like they're praying, and their thought say something along the lines of "Wake up brother, help me!".
So either they were giving him a funeral and they wish he'd wake up and save them, or they're trying to bring him back to life, to kill you, then the false knight.
Now, if you dream nail the body, it sends you into it's dreams.
In these dreams, he's still powerful, and might, but he's called The Failed Champion, because he failed as the champion.
Pretty straightforward.

That's my theory.
Tell me your thoughts, or correct things that I got wrong, and I'll take that into consideration for a revamped version.
As I said above, I don't have too much experience with this game, so I'm probably missing stuff.

By the way, this is a series, I'll be making more lore on other parts of the game in the future.

actually, the maggot that's IN the room IS the FALSE KNIGHT. if you pay attention, the body of the maggot literally disappears. and if you skip false knight breaking the wall, and go there at the room with mantis claw, there are no maggots there, and no candles. They think the false knight can help them. and it's stated in the wiki that hegemol was dummy thicc, almost as big as the armor, so there's no way he's a maggot. there is no knowledge if hegemol is dead or not, but we know that the false knight stole his armor and in HIS dreams he is a champion

It is really odd that the maggot can run around and swing his mace in the armor if it was meant to be worn by a larger creature.

yeah its very strange his body doesnt even fit the head
