How to get out of Forgotten Crossroads?

I cleared the Ancestral Mound and beat the False Knight, but I have no idea where to go next.
I've tried searching for this question and keep getting vague references to go to the north-east corner of the Crossroads, but every dead end I come to seems to require wall jumping or double jumping.

Do I need the key or the lantern from whats-his-faces shop? I'm literally just wandering around aimlessly at this point.

All the way to the left of the crossroads. The place with all the platforms has three entrances on the left wall. Go in the second entrance and proceed from there (its the entrance after/under the Grubfather).

how do you get passed the dude that curls into a ball when you get too close? I feel like an idiot!
