Is this game overrated?

Everything about the game is almost perfect, for its price, id say it is almost a 10/10 in terms of content. Godmaster is garbage tho

Could you explain it a bit more? This game feels more like a chore than a game to enjoy.

What? How is it a chore to you, lol? The game is about exploration, combat and boss fights, theres no grinding or anything like that to make it seem like a chore.

I say it is almost a perfect game based on its price, because for a 10dlls game,the amount of content it has is incredibly absurd; almost 50 bossfights, lots of good music, free dlc, an expansive world filled with little details, lots of builds you can play with, and if you like stortelling like in the souls games, youd like it in this one too. Almost 60 hours of gameplay, and if you want to get in to the godmaster dlc, youll likely end up with 100 hours of playtime. For a 10 dlls game, thats honestly incredible

Incredibly great soundtrack, lore that requires you to think to piece it together, interesting and challenging bossfights, lots of secrets that you can easily miss if you are not exploring areas thoroughly. It has lots of areas and bosses and they are still managing to be unique. OST and attention to details in things like environment, backgrounds or enemies create an amazing atmosphere so exploring new areas while enjoying the views is always a blast. It is interesting to experiment with your equipment to create different builds with different styles but the system is not overly complicated so you don't have to read 20 billion guides to understand it.

There is no such thing as "the best game ever".

To each their own. You can always be the 4% of people who didn't enjoy the game, everyone likes different games after all. Absolutely no pressure there.

I played Dark Souls and I didn't like it almost at all. I played Hollow Knight and I loved it. In my opinion these two games are different from each other in almost all aspects. Even in that one has music, and the second almost doesn't have at all. Especially if you give Hollow Knight more time, because the beginning hours for some players can be a little as you described.

Hollow Knight is that kind of game which becomes more and more interesting, enjoyable and compelling the more things you have discovered in it and the more time you've invested into it.

This is not the kind of game which will take your hand and soothingly say "it all will be alright, don't worry". If you want a chill game, then stay out of metroidvania games, as their very signature is "challenge". I would suggest rather something like Yoku's Island Express (2018) which is great too.

Fun fact: Hollow Knight was not inspired by DS by the creators of this game, and the creators didn't play DS before HK launch...

Well, everyone has their own opinion. I tried witcher 3 and didn't like it even though I loved the tv show. To each their own. It's fine if you don't like something. :)

you gotta remember what they advertised for as well just take a look at their tags. the game includes all of that and the game performs it at super polished standard however if you do not like those things maybe this genre style isnt for you

Depend on ur taste of game. But for me, this game deserve much more than the word "overrated". This indie game is much better than a lot of AAA games out there

the art is absolutely gorgeous, the combat feels so good and the story is intriguing and mysterious

It is worth it 100%. The story is very deep and vague. It gives you no sense of what's coming, and you slowly learn about the area and its habitant's lore. The combat is great, as its simple, yet hard. The bosses aren't as easy as you'd find in a Nintendo game where they are very forgiving and give you overpowered powerups and whatnot. The soundtrack too... Amazing. The graphics are also well designed. It might be a bit heavy on GPU though, so you might want to turn resolution down. Hollow Knight is one of the best games I've spent my money on, I entirely recommend it.
