Anyway yeah, you need the Lumafly lantern from sly in order to see in dark areas (i.e.: The Crystal Peak entrance in the Forgotten Crossroads). You can purchase it from Sly for 1800 geo.
It's always strange to see how people take completely different routes and discover the areas in totally different orders. Although today I beat the Mantis Lords on radiant, I initially had a lot of trouble beating them so i left them alone for a while before finding that entrance to deepnest, I think I actually got to deepnest first through the Fog Canyon or something. Some people also go straight to the Crystal Peak for the Super Dash, or even so they can skip straight to the Resting Grounds.
big team cherry
Also Mozan, none of the areas quite "end" the way you think they do, Hollow Knight is vast and full of delightful exploration, don't put yourself under pressure as though you *need* to move to another area or you *need* to fight a certain boss. It's a metroidvania, relax and explore, take it in at your own pace and do what you want. The forgotten crossroads leads directly to 4 different areas I believe, though each of those paths can't be taken without different respective skills or items (Vengeful Spirit for greenpath, Isma's tear for Fog Canyon, Lumafly Lantern for Crystal peak, and there are two paths you can take to the resting grounds from the forgotten crossroads, one of which requires the tram pass, and the other of which requires skillful manuevering with certain movement items).
i didnt believe it until i saw it but you can actually get into fog canyon without ismas tear, if you're skilled enough. its possible
Edit: I mean from the Greenpath, not the Fungal Wastes
