I'm having the same problem, no sound at all for this game but every other game/program is all working fine as usual.

I've tried all these steps and still I get no sound, there's little to no working fix for this bug that I can find as of yet.

I too might have to request a refund, which is a shame as I really wanted to play through this game.

Use pastebin.org and upload output_log.txt from "hollowknight_Data/" folder, you can find it in: Right click on Hollow Knight in Steam, Properties -> Local files -> View Local filers.

Was getting really pissed of with these stupid fixes that do nothing to fix the sound.

But I figured a way to get the sound fully working with a simple 1 minute fix.

Goto Steam -> Steam Apps -> Common -> Hollow Knight folder.

Right Click the Hollow_Knight App and go down to properties.

Then goto the compatability tab and check the 'Run in compatibilty mode for:' box and select Windows XP service pack 3.

Apply and enjoy the game with sound.

Hey, in case you hadn't fixed this, I had the same problem and just wanted to leave my fix. In my case, I noticed it was all Unity games that were failing to play audio. After some digging around, I found that I had accidentally deleted my Realtek audio drivers at some point, and that they had been replaced by Microsoft drivers. The Microsoft drivers would play most sound, but would fail with Unity-based games. I downloaded and installed the Realtek driver from their website, and after a restart everything is working. Hope this helps!

my niece's had the same issues, turn it was nahimic, i think it is conflicting with realtek, soon as i disable it from task manger the sound was working, after that i uninstalled it for good

so if you do have nahimic audio driver it may be the culprit

leaving this here for anyone still looking for a solution, since i ended up here when i was looking, she had the problem with bastion, hollow knight, slim rancher also roblox

I had this problem too and found a new solution. Sometimes when you connect an external joystick or controller (i used the ps4 controller), the computer's audio shifts to the joystick as if it was a speaker.

I desconected the controller and suddenly i had audio so i went back to chage my audio settings in my computer so the speakers of the laptop keep working even if i connect an external device.

This may sound obvious but that was my problem and i didnt see anyone mention it here. Hope it helps, this is my first game on steam.
