is there something i am missing ? (city of tears watchers spire)

i am trying to go up to the watcher spire for the last dreamer but i get stuck halfway through, all doors are locked and there don't seem to be any way up, i can only go down to exit.

IIRC once you get up past the double jump to climb the tower, there's a small arena-like fight you have to do in the upper left of the next room with a couple flying knights and a big knight or two, then it should open the way to a lever to allow you to progress to the right and up,
