So, Sly
When exactly are you suppose to hit this a$$hole? His range is so massive (around a third of the damn screen on his nail arts ffs) and the delay between his attacks is so short that you get hit every time you try to hit him unless it's a spell, and you don't have unlimited mana.

I believe in you. A lot of the bosses in HK seem overwhelming (and sometimes impossible) at first battles. But when you start analyzing their behaviour and then correcting your tactics after some time of practice something which seemed impossible at first becomes much much easier.

He isnt my favorite either but i got him well enough to beat him in the pantheon.

You can do it too.

I beat NKG and liked the fight. Sly by comparison is just cheap bull$hit. Almost every single time it looks like you are out of range, his sword hits you anyway. And during his final "hyperactive kid on a sugar high" phase he goes straight from a spin into moving again so fast they the window to hit him is laughably small.

That last phase is pretty easy once you figure it out. You pretty much need Mk of Pride to start, then just wait until he comes at you, dash away from him, then run back and hit him once right after he finishes his blade spin and right before he zips away.

Oh I love when bosses require a specific charm, especially a boss who only ever shows up in a pantheon where you have to design your build around the bosses that come before him.

His attacks are harder to predict than almost any other boss, but there are patterns. Basically, hit him right after he finishes an attack string. For example, when he does the two slashes, he'll often jump high and spin, but he's open for a hit after that. I like to dash slash in, then dash out of range. Don't try to hit him when he's running after you, because he can slash really quickly and he'll probably get you. For the nail arts, get out of the way and hit him with a dash slash at the end.

For the final phase...I don't know, just dodge as best you can and use your invincibility frames to get off hits when you can. Descending Dark can be helpful if you time it right, obviously you can Shade Soul him while spinning, and nail arts might have enough range to hit him when he's spinning. If you time it right, you can also hit him right after he finishes spinning but before he jumps away. It doesn't take that many hits to kill him at this point.

Decending dark's i-frames might be a saving grace I've overlooked. Gonna try that some more.

Hey don't forget to dream nail him when he is staggered, especially if you use dream nail charm, it helps a lot

It doesn't require it at all, it just makes it significantly easier. For me anyway the hardest parts of Pantheon of the Sage were before the bench. After it I only struggled with Grey Prince Zote, with Galien taking me down a few hearts and Uumuu finishing me off.

If you haven't been doing it already switching charms at the bench helps a lot if you know which ones are effective against certain bosses.

The real trick to Sly though is to be patient, only hit him after he finishes his spinny move he does or after he does a nail art, and just dash in, hit him once, and dash back out. He's hard to learn but easy once you get him down

i think graveyard media broke it down using a meme.. you can spank it.. once.
im still in the "getting f*cked by NKG" phase myself so i cant really compare, but yea his range looks a bit absurd sometimes, but theres apparently a small opening between attacks. spank it. once. be brings up sly around 7:45 in case you dont want any memes with your breakdown. https://youtu.be/Q3N_aIapvbs?t=465

NKG, Mantis Lords, Dung/White Defender, Paintmaster Sheo and Uumuu are the best fights IMO.
The worst are GPZ (absolutely the worst), Hive Knight, Sly, Watcher Knights and Markoth.

I just tried Sly again after a long time and got him in 5 or 6 trys.
Its always a close one with me healing in between tho.

Can imagin get him on ascended.

Also tried ascended Markoth again. No thx.
Beat him two times long ago, no idea how i did it XD

mantis lords are definitely a favorite, i hate watcher knights less after my last play through, shade cloak, arts, and adding more spells to my rotation made a huuge difference for them. Grimm was a ton of fun, nkg its hard to say, im still at the frustration part of that fight lol. i used to absolutely hate soul master/tyrant.. but hes not really a problem anymore. most of the time when i hated certain bosses it was just cuz i was bad lol. Markoth can get f*ucked though. preferably with a rusty spoon.

Sly's only advantage is his ridiculous nail range. Other than that, he has like, 2 routines or something. Ton of attacks, but he repeats the same combos over and over. He's pretty much the anti-GPZ in terms of predictability.

His most common routines can be countered by just walking away from him.

In particular: if he starts running towards you, he'll do his double-slash-spin routine; counter by letting him start and walking away (but not too far or he'll cancel the routine), then hit him twice after he spins (once as he comes down, once after he lands). If he jumps up, he'll do his slash-down-slash-up routine. Counter by walking walking away (again, not too far or he won't slash up), attack once after he slashes upwards. If he charges near you, he'll do Great Slash, so dash away immediately. If he charges far away from you, he'll do Dash Slash so jump and hit him once after he's done. If he charges in the middle of the arena, he'll do Cyclone Slash; jump and just pogo his nail (it's OK to aim for him directly the first time, but play it safe the second pogo or you'll likely get the timing wrong) If in doubt which Nail Art he'll do (even if you're not sure he'll do a nail art), it's ALWAYS safe to dash away from him.
That's it. That's all his moves.

Final phase is just: dash away when he comes close, then hit him when he stops spinning.

Really, no charms needed at all.
