try, die, repeat until you kill them that's all
oh and mark of pride and quick slash are very good charms
(that's all)
With that in mind, if you're having trouble exploring remember that you can use soul to heal yourself whenever its convenient. Also major monsters won't respawn unless you rest at a bench and minor monsters will respawn when you reenter a room. You can enter a room, kill a minor monster, leave, come back and do it again until your soul is full if you're taking lots of hits.
You can apply this mindset to the bosses too. An overwhelming majority of the bosses can be beaten more easily if you're willing to get hit a few times and use spells instead of healing so you can do even more damage to them. As long as they hit 0 before you do its fine. As the game progresses finding windows to heal yourself in boss fights will become increasingly impossible and using charms to make that easier is generally counter productive. The longer the boss fight goes the more likely you are to make mistakes, rather than making it easier to recover from those mistakes you're better off getting the boss fight done quicker so you won't have the opportunity to make them in the first place.
