How does this compare to Dead Cells, difficulty-wise?
Thanks!

Hollow Knight has some hard bosses, but most of them give you infinite chances to practice them since it’s not permadeath under normal play. I think Hollow Knight is simpler and the difficulty curve can be adjusted pretty wildly with proper charm usage, plus it doesn’t really ramp up like BC difficulties in Dead Cells.

The big difference being there’s no technical “parry” outside of just hitting someone at the same time as they hit you, and there’s no dodge roll mechanic with an invincibility window like DC. You do get an invincibility window for your dash as an optional unlock in the late game, but you may not have it for a lot of the hardest boss fights.

I’d say HK is easier than, like, 4BC Dead Cells, but some of the bosses can actually be pretty challenging for your first tries.

Dead cells is much harder than HK imo. It is a roguelike so every death ends your run, and on harder difficulties (2bc and higher) it gets absolutely unforgiving, sometimes one bad move results at you getting killed or at least being forced to burn all your healing salve making further run nearly undoable.
HK has some rudiculous boss challenges but it is much more forgiving as even the hardest bosses give you heal opportunities so even if you mess up you can still bounce back and be victorious.

Edit: i heard DC got easier with a recent update so my info could be outdated. What i said refers to 1.1 version of a game

Imo, the most difficult stuff in Hollow Knight is far more difficult then the hardest challenges in Dead Cells. The difficulty of the baseline game in Dead Cells is mostly dependent on your loadout but I'd say the base game of both are about even in terms of difficulty.

No idea about dead cells.

This game is pretty easy. Some parts will screw you up on your first playthrough but it gets so easy once you get mechanically good at the game

There are literally only 2 somewhat challenging bosses in the game save for Radiant difficulties which are just a bs challenge for fun. Absolute Radiance and Markoth on ascended \ radiant.

They're both difficult for different reasons. Dead Cells will kick your backside if you get unlucky but will be easy as cake if you get lucky.

Hollow Knight is hard because of some of the platforming, for me at least. However nothing changes if you die so you can learn routes and ideal strats for mobs/bosses.
i haven't seen much of dead cells but everyone is saying in dc if you die its game over. Steel soul mode, if you die your save file is gone, Path of pain, I hate this, Abs Abs Radiance if you get hit once you are dead he has more health than Abs radiance(i think) and Abs Radiance is a LOT faster than radiance, and to fight absolute absolute radiance you have to get to the end of pantheon 5 which i believe fireborn said he doesn't like it bc its hard(he has 3k to 5k hours i think)

From what ive heard about dead cells is that there are harder modes and they can suck

but if you want to get true ending where SPOILERS IM WRITING IT AT THE BOTTOM SO IF YOU WANT YOU CAN READ IT THERE. Then HK is harder imo

you have to beat pantheon 5 first then you become God because you killed all other gods so there aren't anymore for you to defeat but you kill radiance by ripping its face off. and your shade gets out of hand to destroy everything but bc of a SUPER STUPID FLOWER that you have to bring with you across the map not getting hit once and you cant travel you stop your shade from destroying everything.

thats different though
dead cells is a roguelite, its a brief game with perma upgrades. runs last 30-100 minutes
higher difficulty modes increase the challenge of the runs

Typical roguelike. I've never liked this aspect of them. Too much of your success is dependent on lucky drops.
I'ts been a while since I've played DeadCells, and I didn't played that much, but being a different genre it's hard to tell.

In this game, once you unlock all the tools, you can choose which ones to use and when. With a roguelite, it depends on the run. You might get an ideal set for your playstyle, or not.

Another big difference is when you die, you just respawn at the last checkpoint. Some people might complain some checkpoints are far from certain bosses, but in comparison with a roguelite when you just have to start all over again, you can say that you easily can retry all the times you want.

I don't remember platforming being THAT punishing in DC, but in this game there are some hard platforming sections. But the worst platforming section is optional.

So I don't know, they are different.
