You mean by holding X? No time for that kind of move. She's way too fast.
I think I got her to rest 2 or 3 times in some attempts. But towards the end she spawns a ton of those thorns. Also often when I'm cornered (mostly right end of the level) my knight when trying to jump over her will dash right instead of left. Looks almost like a bug at times.
You can get nail master glory for quick charge up, nail charges do x2.5 damage of nail attacks+thorns of agony does x2 nail damage.
Learning her attacks, building muscle memory so you can act and react to her. Upgrades of course help, but assuming you've kept up with them it's just about practice.
I can guarantee you she is not the fastest enemy in the game, she seems fast now, but later she will be slow.
Two nail upgrades should definitely be enough. The key is to focus on taking out those strings and avoid staying in the air for long. When she hurls her nail out, that's when you pogo on her head. Otherwise, just focus on jumping over her when she charges, or dashing under her when she charges at you from air. You can also hit her with spells when she flails her nail around.
IMO she's definitely one of the easier bosses of the game; you just gotta be patient, as is the way of every boss fight in the game
Maybe I'm just unlucky on this one. I've beaten other bosses which I found hard at first after a few attempts; without too many upgrades. They all have some kind of rhythm and give you at least a chance to react.
This one moves far too quickly and too unpredictably. Apart from the chaincasting of thorns, she can throw her needle, then dash, then dash again in the opposite direction without even pausing a second. Also what she likes to do is move a bit when you're in the air and about to land, so that you land on her and take damage (since when I start my jump she's somewhere else, I often forget to add a downward slash to my acrobatics). Worst of all: she giggles when she does that. Really annoying boss for me. I'll surely give it a few more tries but this one might make me loose interest in the game.
Sheesh. I finally managed to beat her. If you try long enough at a certain point you start to react instinctively to her attacks.
To those who have trouble beating her: make sure you upgrade your nail first (3rd upgrade). I don't think charms are really relevant in this fight although I'd suggest having sprintmaster equipped. It seems to make avoiding her attacks slightly easier. Don't focus too close on her otherwise you'll miss the hints for the next attack which is crucial. Don't stay at the edges of the map for too long, she'll corner you - movement is crucial in this fight. Only use the edge of the map when she throws her spear. That's your chance to heal. Also when she does her aerial aoe attack you have time to reagain one mask of health.
