Mantis lords are impossible to beat
I've read all the tips and guides, watched all the videos. Did anything I can do. Nada. Hundreds of defeats, nothing to show. They are unbeatable.

That is all...

Personally I think Mantis Lords are one of the toughest "fair" bosses in the whole. Some of the later bosses are way harder but there's always some BS mechanics involved with them, but not for Mantis Lords. Every attacks they do is very well telegraphed, with each move having distinct tells, and all of them gives you just enough time to react and dodge. One of my favorite fights in the entire game for sure.

If your having trouble, I'd suggest exploring a different area and then returning after you've gotten more upgrades and charms. It'll make the fight significantly easier.

Problem is, I've explored every nook and cranny, to the point where I have no idea how to progress any further.
Or rather, I can progress into areas that seem tougher, and require some "buffing" up to do.
But I've "tapped out" the "buffing well"...

Well that's understandable, it's actually happened to me as well on my first playthrough and I eventually caved in and looked up a guide on where to go next. But right now I can tell you this, Mantis Lords are 100% optional and you can explore every single area of the game without beating them.
Also some areas may look like they're "too tough" to explore in your curent state, but trust me, there's no such thing in this game.

Worth mentioning that the only area that unlocks for beating the Mantis Lords is a straight up claustrophobic nightmare that's considerably harder to navigate and survive than the other surrounding areas.

To be sure, have you used the Mantis Claws to cross the bridge on the right-hand border of the Fungal Wastes yet?

After dying to them once, Quirrel shows up outside the village and tells you to upgrade your nail before fighting them. So, yes, the game's "recommended" option right now is finding the next area.

Be patient, persistent and take breaks & come back to it. It took me a long while to beat them, lots of memorized patterns, & practice practice practice. You will get it just keep going!

What might help you would be to play a few rounds without actually trying to win, and instead watching how they move. The Mantis lords only have a handful of attacks that they use. In the second wave, it's basically the same moveset as the first wave but with two of them. So, if you are good at avoiding the first wave's attacks, the second wave mostly just adds speed to the mix.

The thing that tripped me up at first was the move where they both throw a spinning blade from opposite sides of the screen. To avoid this attack, you want to stand in the center of the field, if they move quickly, stay put and they will split and avoid hitting you. If they linger in the center, they will hit you if you stay, so dash to the left or right then jump to get over it.

There is also a hidden room on the upper left-hand side of the Mantis Lord's room. If you can get up there, there a couple Lifeblood seeds there that might help out.

Make sure to memorize their attacks and the telegraphs preceding them. Someone mentioned learning to survive the fight without attacking them and that's actually a very good advice. Once you're confident in dodging their attacks, slip a hit here and there (or multiple hits as they leave quite long attack windows) and that will be it. Good luck :)

my advice is to "zone out". step back from the TV/monitor. Watch the whole scene, don't focus on each individual. They only spawn on 4 places if I remember, so watch all 4 simultaneously. If you see where they spawn, you then also know where they're going, ie where you need to not be.

The Mantis Lords only have three attacks though......

I'm not trying to be mean but you are in for a world of hurt if they are "impossible" for you.

Every boss seems impossible to beat....until you beat it ;)

You can explore other areas and come back to them later with an upgraded nail. The shorter the fight lasts the less time you'll have to take hits. Mantis Lords are one of the most fun fights in the game. Its surely the one that got me hooked on this game

I feel the same.. I explore other places instead. Upgrading the nail helps a lot!!:hollowknight:

you just gotta learn the attack pattern and know exactly when you can heal and when you can hit and also how many times you can hit when there is an opening
