NK Grimm OP?
I stay alive for 5-6 seconds each time I challenge him. Very frustrating. Endgame, got every charm, HP/MP upgrade. Got every other boss in game in 2-3 tries. This one nailed me 40+ times. Any way to nerf his difficulty?

You should check out this NKG guide.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1345604152

The build I ultimately ended up using to beat him was:

Strength ( 3 ), Longnail ( 2 ), Grimmchild ( 2 ), Quick Focus ( 3 ), Grubsong ( 1 ).

- Strength will make the hits you land count.

- Quick Focus and Grubsong should allow you to get a decent amount of heals off during the safe moments in the fight and ensure you have the soul nessecary to heal.

- Grimmchild is required to fight the boss.

- Longnail is the most useful 2 notch charm if you can't have Mark of Pride, imo. Feel free to switch it out for Sharp Shadow if you prefer it for the NKG fight though.

also i got a charm setup that might help. its a bit unusual from the rest, but with the attacks that i do it works... like a charm :D

i use:

grimmchild (obviously),

sharp shadow (the extended length of the shadow dash is useful against the bat attack, and slightly chips away the boss hp every time you use it),

fragile/unbreakable strength (do i have to explain?),

quickslash (it really gets the job done fast),

defender's crest (does a bit of damage. there ain't really anything else i'd rather put in the mix that has 1 charm cost, but do consider replacing with: sprintmaster or steady body and see how that works out)
I recommend swapping unbreakable strength for quick focus and then learning when it's safe to heal. The extra damage is nice but it doesn't mean anything if you are dead.

lol the only time i consider to heal is between bat stages. i mean, is there really any other good time for it?

If you get out of the way of the cloak spikes fast enough, it's a fairly safe time to heal as well. I recall the fire bat attack has an opening for healing as well, though I never had to use it.
To counter the dive kick, you just have to run the same direction as the dive, smack him when he hits the ground and then just pogo jump off his followup dash kick. Do this right and you get two hits, and the pogo will bounce you over his fire - no need to even dash most of the time.

Same with his dash uppercut. If he appears to your left, run to the right (or vica versa), slash him as soon as he slashes at you (results in a counter) and then smack him again just before he uppercuts. Usually that will bounce you right between his followup fireballs too.

The only time these tactics change is if you get yourself trapped in the corner. He likes to bait you into hitting him during his pillars by appearing close to the edge, and after the pillars, can trap you with an uppercut or something...jump over him when this happens and you're fine, or dash through him if you have shade cloak.

Everything else is self explanatory. If you want a spoilerish video on some good tactics, watch this no-hit, charmless, vanilla (old nail, no shade cloak, etc.) run of NKG:

I actually beat him pretty easily after switching from aggresive tanking to healing set. Took about half an hour, but got on 1-st attempt(after 50+ failures, but that`s not important).

So I read about Godmaster DLC, tried to complete 1-st Pantheon...aaand screw this, I`ll finish the story in Black Egg Temple and uninstall the game as fast as possible. Not only we fight all the same bosses again - very "entertaining" after 70+ hours of gameplay - but we should start at the very beginning if we fail. Nope, don`t have time for that(

lol tanking nkg? that's NOT somethin anyone wants to do. healing? pretty good

i did offensive + skill-based dodging. it took me more tries but i think in the end the skills i got will help me with that true last boss

I used quick focus, sprintmaster, the one where you dash damages, grubsong. Got him in 10th attempt take your time dodge the pufferfish attack next to the wall best time to heal is when he sends the spikes up.
Boksha Dec 24, 2018 @ 10:34am
Yeah, you can't really tank NKG. Besides him doing 2 masks of damage at a time, he's only vulnerable while he's actually attacking; most of the time he's either out of reach or not even on the stage.
