Question about explosion pogo jump

Following the speedrun guide to do this skip. Still practicing.

Sometime I don't take damage by explosion, is this mean I jump too late?

what patch are you running on I'm assuming 1.2.2.1 also if you've figured out how to do it by now please help me I'm stuck on the same part.

I ran on 1.4.3.2 IIRC.
