Difficulty level of this game
I found the difficulty of this game very annoying.

Now let me clear this up: I thoroughly enjoy good difficult games. Since playing hollow knight I've started playing Dark Souls 3, and it is now one of my favorite games. Difficulty isn't a problem for me.

Except for the way this game handles difficulty. I never found it hard to learn enemy attack patterns, or how to kill them in Hollow Knight. The part where the difficulty pissed me off is, enemies take too many hits to take out after a certain point in the game. The attacks of the main character are far too limited, so the huge amounts of health with enemies, plus little attack variation to add a little bit of variety to fighting, I found myself just not touching the game.

Does anyone else feel this way? Should I try to play the game again?

How far did you get? There is an NPC that ups how much damage you deal and there are six extra attacks beside the basic slash that can be learned throughout.

I got to the boss in city of tears, and quit before I beat him.

It's in the city of tears that you can upgrade your nail - soul master isn't a necessary progression point at that stage of the game anyways. Plus, there's a few more attacks (through spells and charms) the knight can perform.

I suggest going back to the game, getting the hell out of soul sanctum, finding the nailsmith (tip: he's not in the east) and then trying it again. I'm certain you'll like it!

basically your on the verge of getting more combat variety.
-there are movement upgrades that make boss fights more fun
-there are several special attacks with your nail
-there are more spells
-as you get more charms you can make different builds
-as mentioned, your nail can be upgraded to do more damage
as a matter of fact, beating the boss in city of tears gives you a new spell, so yeah, give it another chance

About the number of hit:

base nail is 5 damages. every nail upgrade is +4. So whit one nail upgrade, you basically need half less hits. The first nail upgrade cost only 250 geos.

Vengefull spirit is 15 damage, and the others spells and spell damage upgrades can go up to 120 damages and yes, thats pretty OP and allow some differents and cheese tactics.

Also, you can unlock nail arts for "charged" nail attacks that deal 2.5x nail damage. Pretty usefull to 1-shot some ennemies in some situations.

As others have said, nail upgrades + charm combinations (e.g. faster attack speed or higher damage spells) can increase your damage by a lot. Good luck with Hollow Knight and have fun getting your behind handed to you in Dark Souls.

you need to give time, the start is a little boring, the boss fight are going to be awesome, trust me

Note that a single Vengeful Spirit when fired from behind as the Soul Master is moving away from you (e.g. during his spinning orb charge, or ground charge) will do 30 damage as well (15 per hit, but since it moves along with him it'll hit twice), taking off about 1/9th of his total HP. Even with the limited attack options of the early game you can deal quite a lot of damage.

But yeah, the ability to deal damage quickly goes up really fast once you start upgrading your nail. Most bosses can be crushed in under a minute without even doing anything crazy.

Hi. Read my review. It is negative entirely because of the difficulty of this game
https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197993341038/recommended/367520

Also amount of hours in my profile is not real. It seems still to count even if you pause the game and minimize the window without quiting the game.

Yes ofc it counts. Steam counts every second the .exe is runnnig (green game name in your profile)

You gave a negative review because you were angry and raged about the difficulty and your inability to overcome the hurdle. Yes that hurts but doesn't make the game bad if you are honest.

I can't finish the 5th pantheon with all bindings but that didn't lead to a neg review on GOG.

Take a deep breath and practice or realize that some things are too hard for the one or other player.

Then Ori and the Blind Forest, Cuphead, Dark Souls and this game would have tons of neg. reviews but most people like these games.

for me i never once felt ( yet ) that when i died it was the games fualt, thier was times it gave me a chance to heal, counter or learn to follow a basic pattern and i died a lot, backtracking to a boss just to loop again but i got better then later bosses i was able to kill first try was a nice change

1) Sad. Now I don't know any real hours I've played any of my game. Because I may not quite games for days.

2) I finished Ori on high dificulty. I was ennoyed a lot, but I loved the game mostly and my review will be positive. Everything was barable and had much less backtracking. Dificulty was adequite.

3) I finished HK with 99% then I continued from the last brench and played for 102% or something like that. So I had the whole game before edtiting the final review. Negative is completely justifible.

4) The difficulty is inbalanced. 90% of the game was adequate, other 10% was redicolous. Everyone can play it, only chosen one can finish it.

5) The difficulty is stupid. As I said in my review, it is difficult not because you need to think and learn, but because you need to push a button within 1ms, but you can do it only within 2ms. It is nothing more than biological selection of "chosen" ones.

Just imagine you payed for the jym and every equipment there only for someone who can lift 200 kg. But you can only 50 and they just call you weak for that. It is redicolous.

6) When I finished all the bosses (not including Zote and Gods) I did not feel like I did it. My subconsious and probobility did it for me.

7) I heard that some morons can say something like "I died 300 times with this boss and I loved it so much". If that is the audience of this game it doesn't deserve positive review.

Well, actually...

It's the same for money, hours of work, number of arms and most other things IRL, sadly.

But fortunately, it's a game, and a single-player one on top of that! I have not finished 3 pantheons, nor the path of pain, and even not the coloseum of fools, and still i'm very proud of myself! ^^
