Hollow Knight v1.4.2.9 available on Public Beta for Windows PC
Hey Everyone,

Version 1.4.2.9 of Hollow Knight is now available for Windows PC players on the public beta branch.

NOTE: Due to an error, the title screen will show the version number as '1.4.2.8' - the version has been updated on public beta though.

Accessing Public Beta:
  1. Right-click on 'Hollow Knight' in the library and click 'Properties'
  2. Select the 'Betas' tab in the window that pops up
  3. Select 'public-beta-' from the dropdown menu
  4. Download should start automatically!


v1.4.2.9 Changelog:
  • Fixed (another) issue where Hornet Sentinel could get stuck in wall during Godhome battle
  • Fixed issue where defeating Failed Champion or Lost Kin in Godhome also counted as defeating them in Hallownest, missing achievement (if achievement was missed previously it should now be awarded when player next rests at a bench)
  • Added extra check to keep Pantheon of the Master bosses out of the ground

  • Reduced HP of Godmaster's final battle
  • Reduced Markoth's HP in Godmaster battles
  • Several changes to Uumuu's Godmaster incarnation:
    • Reduced Uumuu's HP
    • Uumuu calls for Uoma more often
    • Uoma rise more slowly
    • Uumuu's speed down
    • Explosions do more damage to Uumuu
    • Reduced the size of the explosion hitbox that damages hero
    • Extended vulnerability time for Uumuu

  • Fixed issue where a mechanism could be struck while it was retracted into the ground in Godhome
  • Fixed issue where players could use Dreamgate to warp out of ending sequence and bust the game
  • Fixed timer display issues for main game and Godmaster pantheons
  • Fixed Moss Charger's rustling grass not appearing
  • In Mantis Village, disallowed enemies from approaching the Mantis Claw item to prevent possible softlock
  • Game text fixes in certain languages

Also, as i've said before, the argument that 'well this is a bossrush it shouldnt have checkpoints because bossrushes don't have checkpoints' is a poor argument in my opinion. Hollow Knight isn't a typical Metroidvania, the bosses aren't typical bosses, (i.e Flukemarm. what other game does a boss like that?!) and the world of Hallownest isn't a typical game world. To say that, after all that unique and wonderfully refreshing content, the boss rush mode should be 'just like all the others' is kinda sad to me. It even kinda underrmines the work Team Cherry put into crafting each and every boss. If you have to fight them over and over again, they become tedius and boring, and not at all the way i bet Team Cherry intended them to be. So yeah, i'm in favor of adding checkpoints.
AND WE KNOW THAT TEAM CHERRY DOESN'T WANT TO MAKE A NORMAL BOSSRUSH:

In the treehouse, they said they wan't to make a bossrush in their way, with a story in it. It's interesting but frustrating to the lore lover that have to pass that bossrush of hell to get some information about hornet dlc and cannot because they are not "git guder" and have another things to do in their life than restart again and again 45 min of bossrush to be rekt by NKG, PV or the true true last boss (who is not in the normal story questline).

Hey, so umm... I dunno if it's a bug, bit if you have Sharp Shadow equipped, it is possible to dash into the Collector before he starts his scream in Godhome, and if you do, you will take damage and then be able to freely move and attack him while he's still laughing. You can even stagger him before he even finishes his intro!

I don't know if this is intentional or not, because on one hand, it kinda fits his character and is reminiscient of the original Crystal Dash thing that you can do in Hallownest. On the other hand, however, it makes him way easier to beat, unless youre on Radiant difficulty.

Anyway, just throwing that out there.

I believe it is, though it's rare. If you get hit and thus get sent upwards, then landing, during a bosses little moment you will be free to move and attack as you please. I personally had this happen to me when Dung Defender beats his chest midway; he hit me and then I could attack him during what is supposed to be a pause.

A little bit sad about Trial of the Fool no longer being a requirement, not because of difficulty, but beacuse of lore and concept.

I liked the concept that after you beat a boss in Hallownest, you earn the corresponding mark to open the Pantheon. I can't help but feel a little bit awkward that every other boss needs to be defeated to light up the mark that opens the Pantheon, but God Tamer being a single exception. Unless there already was an exception boss to this mechanic that I don't know?

And one question regarding this opinion: does anyone know how the check list for Panthon of the Sage works in the beta? Does the mark for God Tamer automatically light up even if you didn't beat Trial of the Fool?

Well, I dunno about other bosses besides God Tamer that don't need to be encountered to be fought in Godhome but i know that if you never saw Grey Prince Zote for whatever reason he never appears in Pantheon of the Sage, for what it's worth.

Well, it kinda makes sense. His description in the Hall of Gods calls him a "false god conjured by the lonely". I believe he'e the only boss called a "false god" so it makes sense for him to not be a requirement.

Still no word by Team Cherry on including checkpoints for pantheons? They really should get behind that soon and move the proper boss rush into the extra mode, where it belongs. The main file doesn't need a classic boss rush, just like it doesn't need a one-life run, which was wisely moved into an extra mode as well.

Well, keep in mind it's like 2 am where they are right now, so we probably won't hear anything for a while. But yeah, i agree. Checkpoints in the main game, no checkpoints in Godseeker mode. It just makes sense.

Don't add checkpoints, please, that would destroy the sense of a boss rush!
