You have to ascend the dream nail to hit that guy with it. Look for more tombstones.

you have to get something like 1800 essence in your dream nail and then hit that one guy near where the palace entrance thing is in ancient basin
it took me a while but after you do that you will enter white palace

if you can't get any more essence from trees or from tombstones, try killing lost kin, the dream version of broken vessel. It's a fairly easy fight, and takes a few tries, but you can basically just face tank him.

You need to get 1800 essence and then go back to the moth in the resting grounds, this will awaken your dream nail and allow you to strike the knightly looking dude in the palace grounds down in the ancient basin, that will take you to the white palace :)
