What does Jiji do?

I got to them by buying the key on the right of village

When you die and leave all your money in a location with a spirit you kill to get your money back, you can instead go to Jiji and give him an item (I forgot its name) and he will summon the spirit to you so you fight it there.

This is done so if you die in a location difficult to get to (and die again) you don't lose the money again, as the spirit only carries the most recent deaths money.

Like Kain1356 said, if you give him the Rancid Egg item, which can be found, bought once from Sly the shopkeep, and can be bought repeatidly from an NPC in the WAterways, he will summon your shade so you don't lose a ton of geo if it is in a hard to reach spot.
