Sly becoming Infected?

I was just starting my Steel Soul playthrough after having been away from the game for some months, and I just realised... when we find Sly, is he not in the 'process' of becoming infected by Radiance?

Not only him. Bretta (that bug in fungal wastes) was getting infected too before you talk to her. I think it's just those two.
And yeah, they are becoming infected. Though it seems you catch them right when it begins, since they barely lose any memory.

I feel a little less sad about Menderbug now, since he lived next door to Sly and presumably wouldn't have lasted long.

Menderbug had such drive, such purpose... he would never have fallen to the infection... you murderer.

He lasted long enough to keep repairing all those statues and gates and signposts you slashed on your way throughout the whole game.
