Although nothing in the game is actually called magic or a 'spell', there is a thing called 'soul' and the word 'casting' is in the game. There are a few places where you have to use soul to get ahead in the game (in particular, enemies that block your way that can only be removed by using soul from a distance and floors that have to be destroyed with a downwards attack that uses soul) and realistically, you're going to be using the 'focus' ability to recover your health. The game will be practically impossible without using that. There are also numerous enemies that use soul to attack the player, which kind of look like (insectoid) wizards in capes.
And like Boksha said there is no thing called spells. But we players call them spells cuz in most games things like this is called spells.
Also I checked wikia and there was list of spells and abilities.
They differ from the other abilities in the game is that Spells consume a rescource(Soul), while other abilities do not. Hence the distinction.
Focus is the Spell you start with. It allows you to heal yourself. This spell is required to beat the game.
Fireball is the first ability that you get, and its required to progress. It allows you to do a ranged attack.
Quake can be aquired around mid-game, and while it is not required to beat the game at the bare minimum, you would miss out on a significant amount of content without it. It allows you to create concentrate force downward into a bursting shockwave.
Scream can be aquired early-game, but it's sort of hidden in a spot where you might not find it right away. It's not required to progress, but it is very useful, especially when enhanced. It allows you to conjure a wave of energy upward.
There are also various forces and Higher Beings in the world of Hallownest;
So what's your problem?
And the Snail Shaman calls the Fireball "A nasty little Spell" when he gives it to you.
See, now that is an actual point.
Reminds me of when the churches preached the 'evils' of Pokemon, Harry Potter, and similar fantasy media.
