If you choose Banishment, Nightmare King will still be in the 5th pantheon, and beating him there will unlock his statue in the Hall of Gods.
Carfree Melody isn't very good though(0% chance to block, increases by 10% to 20% each time you get hit, upto 90%, resets to 0% whenever it procs successfully. On average, it doesn't even block a fourth of the hits you take). It might be worth 2 notches, but not 3.
The only major boon it has going for it is that it can potentially allow you to take a hit in a Radiant bossfight, since CM's hit counter doesn't reset on dream death.
You only get the option to banish them AFTER killing Grimm's first incarnation. Thus you dont miss out on any charm notch unless you just ignored opening the chest
Also for me the nightmare king was instantly available in the hall of gods before doing any pantheons, even though I had banished the troupe. I did beat him on another save file though, couldn't tell if that has anything to do with it.
