I bought the Quill for the map, but I don't see it in my inventory anywhere and it does not function?

I can't find my quill anywhere and I can't repurchase it. I don't see it in my inventory anywhere and I can't equip it at a bench. Am I missing something?

You just explore a new area that you haven't been to, then once you sit at a bench it'll auto update the map

You don't manually use the quill. It is automatically used when you sit on a bench to fill in not-yet-documented parts of the maps you've bought from Cornifer. Whenever you've traversed an area which Cornifer hasn't included in a map you've bought, it will automatically be filled in once you rest at a bench.
