Guy on a stick near nailmaster oro?

Hey I'm on my first playthrough of the game and I just found nailmaster oro. Then, after learning another nailart pointless in comparison to just the normal charge attack, went further to the right and found a guy tied to or impaled by a post or something. When I use my dream nail on him I don't get any answers other than "...Stronger... Brothers..." I started hitting him and two giant hoppers fell from the ceiling. I was just wondering what this guy's purpose was and what I can do with him?

To me it looks like a Great Hopper tied to a stick, and its "stronger brothers" come down if you hit it enough.
