Do you find doing a small hop difficult?

Remember that you should jump towards grimm, back up a few steps and repeat.

Have you tried dashing? Keeps you level for a small distance.

Like Herr said, tiny hops are amazing for that phase, as it happens 3 times if I remember. Try to avoid any dashes, and cram yourself in a corner and do a tiny jump forward towards Grimm before backing up for the next wave.

Dreamshiled can help, but it is rather unreliable as a defence charm for that part.
You're talking about the "flame spawner" attack, which Grimm does 3 to 4 times during the battle; 1st at ~100% health (if hit during his bow at this start of the fight), 2nd at 75% health, 3rd at 50% health, and 4th at 25% health.
This also applies to his Dream Boss variant "Nightmare King", except he will always do it 3 times, and the projectiles are slightly faster and do double damage.

I am pretty sure that its always the same pattern, so after enough attempts dodging it should become trivial.

You should try to be on the right side of the arena when he does that though, as you can get caught in the doorway on the left side.

Dreamshield can help eliminate some of the projectiles as it orbits you.

Also, Grimm is immune to damage when he does this, so focus on dodging.

I also had a lot of trouble dodging this attack, and took an awful lot of damage from it. In the end, I got good enough at dodging the other attacks that I was able to heal the damage I took from it in the phases in between (specifically the flame pillar attack), using a charm combination with: quick focus/deep focus/shape of uun/grubsong/thorns of agony.

I'm not the best player but this made it a lot easier for me. Maybe try it if you think it will help you.

We are referring to Troupe Leader Grimm, not NKG. Regular Grimm doesn't have the flame pillar attack.

Doing small hops works best, though there are sometimes sets that require a large jump. You typically don't want to stay in the corner, but close to the wall while leaving some space between you and the wall. This is to ensure that you have the option of walking backwards a bit when you find that you don't have enough time to dodge otherwise. Some flames don't even need you to jump, while for some you may find yourself needing to use double jump to make it in time. It'd probably be easier to get used to looking a bit in front of the knight, giving you more time to react.

...but I'm late to the party and you've already beaten the boss, congrats c:

It's very clearly not, since I remember starting it out without having to jump a few of the times while the others clearly required jumps to dodge.

He was referring to NKG though. If you look at his achievements, you'll find that he's beaten regular grimm more than a week ago and has just beaten NKG.

I assume you haven't lost any of your charms, so with that in mind your last 1% could possibly be from missing a spell upgrade (Shade Soul, Descending Dark, or Abyss Shriek) or one of the 7 warrior graves.
