Though some player interaction would have been nice: for example, leaderboards for bosses with particular charm loadouts (but then we have to consider cheating) or other players (your friends) leaving memos around the hollownest for you to uncover - think Talos Principle (but again, this can ruin some immersion, if people go with 'lol random humor' messages)
If we wouldnt break the rules nothing would be invented.
I think better questions are:
Would people like to have it? How would it look like?
Is it even possible to do or to much efford?
I assume it's probably something people don't want in general from this type of game eventho I'd love it as I really enjoyed a lot of 2D PvP games when I was younger like super mario war or brawlhalla in the last couple of years.
2D games are just a lot of fun and so underrated.
Indeed, I had the same thought and you could still just disable some charms if they would be to strong or lame for pvp.
Actually balance probably doesnt matter as this would be just a fun feature but then again you wouldn't be able to communicate with each other which is well, maybe not so great.
If you want some fighting pvp wait for some fighting game like Rival of Aether add new characters from other game (they added Ori). I remeber few months ago there was a topic ask the community vote to add the Knight in a game.
Leaderboard is a good idea but actually that's not what this topic is about.
I noticed that this discussion might be pointless because for one part of it only the devs can give me/us an answere (Is it possible or unlikely to happen) and the other part (if people want it) can be answered best by a poll instead of a discussion.
Feel free to drop some ideas tho.
For the "is it possible" aspect, it's not that hard to judge even without the devs' clear answer. If you know anything about the coding behind this game, it's not hard to figure out what would conflict with what is already there. As far as I'm concerned you are able to deal damage and you are able to take damage, so being able to fight another you should be possible to do. The only problems when it comes to this are related to how the fight would play out and how you'd actually implement MP in this game to begin with.
Likely to happen? Probably not. While the devs do have a look at what the community wants for this game, it doesn't mean all of the ideas will make it through. I feel like this kind of idea would need a lot of people supporting it before it even got a chance to be implemented.
I'm not sure if it wouldnt feel like a real fight, you could make some adjustments to the mode and I know for sure that games like Paperbound or Super mario war are very nice to play.
I was thinking about netcode, dedicated servers or peer to peer, I dont know how this works.
Yeah, I guess there are not a lot of people who would like this idea.
I think most people who play this game enjoy the core genre a lot and are more into speed runs and stuff like that. While Im just someone who likes to play a story + some challenging mechanics and after finishing it, I'd like to enjoy it some more by facing other players.
Beating the AI over again just doesnt satisfy me in any game.
The game not design for multiplayer why would you force the game like that. Look at the game's updates recently you can see that the devs focus on singleplayer not multiplayer. Probably they won't add Pvp or multiplayer content because they not plan for it or just a small number people want it so they don't need to add it. Also coding for multiplayer require lots of time and work. If you want to kill a game just ask EA (Dead Space 3 for example) and Activision (COD franchise) since they want to milk money through multiplayer and now their games become pile of crap.
If you want some Pvp go back to the leaderboard it is the old Pvp way but it viable for this game. Back in the old arcade machine most of game have Pvp so leaderboard is the best way to compete with other players.
Lots of game don't need Pvp or multiplayer to be perfect
That is my guess. Everything else you said feels disconnected from what this is about.
The core of the game is stable and all good, we are talking about a feature. People don't buy this game for multiplayer.
I don't like to compare it with Dark Souls but whatever:
People play Dark Souls for the PvE challenge just like HK. Invasions are pretty cool there but probably nothing you want to add in this game. A Colosseum challenge on the other hand would be a nice thing to have. A nice feature... anyway I think we can drop the discussion.
The more I think about it, the more it feels like it wouldn't be worth the effort. Probably the way I imagine it, there wouldn't be enough people participating in PvP, so why bother.
I'll not respond to this discussion any further but leave it to you guys if you feel like talking about it.
