Holy Crap!!!
I don't know if this has been said before, probably has, but I get such a Miyazaki vibe from the art style, and I mean that as the highest of praise. Just from watching 30 seconds of the first video on the store page compelled me to buy this as soon as my paycheck comes in.

I was also drawn in by the art style when I first got the game. The way they used the colors really appeals to my tastes and I have to say it was and is really nice to look at in any part of the game.
I know right!!!! The layer's of lighting and the depth of the colors really reminded me of Princess Mononoke, but darker, like if Miyazaki did a dark souls movie. XD sorry I just really like Miyazaki's art style :3

Funny thing is this game is sometimes compared a little to Dark Souls. XD

Emphasis on 'a little'.

I think it's mostly the tone and the story. But I'm fairly sure OP was talking about Miyazaki Hayao of Studio Ghibli, and not Miyazaki Hidetaka of From Software!

You're right about that. Somewhat of a fantasy whimsy, but just enough dark undertones to be somewhat off. Not entirely creepy but just off.

At least, until you hit Deepnest. At that point the creep factor goes up a few degrees and the 'nope' factor goes out the front door if you have a fear of spiders.

The fear of spiders part was totally me in a nutshell. The art and animations on all of the enemies in that section were really freaky. Especially the monsters that pretend to be other bugs... GROSS. Those twitchy movements and leg animations were freaky as heck.

I don't really fear spiders like, at all unless they're really creepy. I found the infested corpses really creepy when I first saw them. Some of the other spiders were just kinda cute to me with their simplistic designs. I think this game does get real creepy in the silent segments where you'll be hearing good music, enter an area, and the music just cuts out as soon as you enter the area. Really unnerving.

Speaking of fear, did anyone else "nope" right out of resting grounds when hearing the sounds of the entombed husk for the first time?

No. The sounds just made me want to kill them more. Much like one of the enemies in the Waterways below the City of Tears.

The only thing about the Deepnest that really creeped me out is the Silverfish-like things that come out of the ground. I hate those kind of bugs with a passion.
