This is untrue. You can dodge both the going out and coming back of the needle. As I mentioned earlier, it's possible to pogo on the needle to help avoid damage if you're in a bad spot. But if you're about halfway between her and the wall, you can easily jump twice and dodge both times. If you're too far but not far enough, the needle will reach you and immediately boomerang back. For these cases, just pogo (down slash) on the nail and you'll be fine.
However I won't recommend to try jump twice, because it risky, it so much easier just to stay far away and don't care about needle at all.
