Love Lifeblood! But....
Dear Team Cherry!

1) New brightness/color tint is awefull! Certain places, specifically City of Tears and Deepnest, are extremely far off from how it really should look. City of Tears is no longer bleak and somber feeling, and the rain is barely visible anymore. and Deepnest is far from the creepy dark hole it once was really;

The game in general is significantly brighter, and takes me right out of the immersion of the game. The old dark, bleak looking game, is now more of a "happy go lucky" kind of look. I really hope that they either revert to the old games colours, OR give us the option in the menus to select the old colours vs new ones. Since I can understand why some might like it. I for one will not be playing the game anymore if it stays the same sadly. Which is a shame as it was my favourite game.

Thanks for reading, and i hope Team Cherry sees this or other people talking about the same thing, and takes this into consideration. I love to see old GREAT location back or atleast color swap setting in menu.

Some images.

And this is the new brighter city: https://imgur.com/a/FNohC
Here's a clip of how it is now across Hollow Knight's statue screen (sorry I couldn't find a more still video). And here's how it used to be before. The difference is pretty staggering.

TС please dont ruin game we LOVE! Bring back old dark and immessvie locations! https://imgur.com/a/IGKs5

2) Downgrade of Blood Particle Effects. I really dont like new blood particle effect :( Looks off and wired. Very bright and w/o any intgersting dynamic or phys. Looks totall FLAT and boring.

Here's how it looked like BEFORE. https://s17.postimg.org/ktaq7yyi5/BEFORE.jpg Nice and organic, dynamic splatter. You can see the orange blobs physically interact with the environment. Feels "tangible" and visually gratifying.

And here's how it looks like NOW. https://s17.postimg.org/9jdezayy5/AFTER.jpg Physics? What physics? The over-saturated orange blobs simply vanish midair. Zero interaction with environment. Completely inorganic and "intangible". Here's another if you need more convincing. https://s17.postimg.org/bb6du8d65/AFTER2.jpg

Video New "orange blood" effect. https://youtu.be/VcEXEC53pcg?t=10s Now compare to how it was before. https://youtu.be/qpoNhUzpcRo?t=13s

This is clearly a BIG downgrade! I can only surmise the Switch couldn't handle the awesome particle effects of the PC version, 'cause I cannot reasonably find any other explanation for it :/ I just wish the PC didn't have to suffer for it!

Ugh. I don't like those changes, either.

We are definitly getting that extra colorful nintendo vibe...I have to agree Shustrik. Maybe a middle ground could please more people?

WE NEED LESS BLUE, facin blu update.
No, really, totaly agree with the color.
Deepnest must be creppy, not blue
and City of Tears must be a little depresing.

agree also for the particle, but make a thing in option menu to upgrade/downgrade that effect.

and you should said that in the official public beta report thread

cool, you do what i have said. MAKE HOLLOW KNIGHT DARK SOULISH AGAIN

I initially liked the changes but after some thinking I agree. It's too bright and colorful for Hollow Knight. But some changes in color like orange looking more dangerous like infection should and and "loss" of void and soul when you get hit are nice touches.

I think the new infected crossroads are way better, but the background of deepnest has to be some kind of bug, it's basically pure white in some places

I haven't even played lifeblood yet, but judging just by the pics you posted I've got to admit, you're 100% right. The original colours and effects look significantly better.
I don't understand however, why would they change pc version if it was indeed a switch downgrade, can someone elaborate on that? Do they need the two versions to be the same?
Shustrik Mar 29, 2018 @ 10:52am
Additional refernce to big particles downgrade (thx. for images to reddit) I took exactly the same 11 frames for both examples. Disregard the color disparity between the two, focus on the physical properties of the particles only:

observe their shape,
line and arch of trajectory,
texture and depth of dimension,
and collision density upon impact surface

Looks so bad now :( Flat, dull, without physics and enviroment interactions. Old blood particles have much better visuals and dynamic.

Not playing until GNG gets released, but I'm gonna throw this out there.

I don't mind the tints, but I thoroughly agree on the blood effects. They look really fake and way too saturated.

Also, I read something about "backporting mechanics" to be in line with the Switch version? What does this mean? I might very well be jumping the gun but It looks to me like some aspects of the game might get neutered for the sake of lining up with the Switch.

Agree, prefer old color tone.

If so, let's hope it's specific to the Switch release and not the Steam version.

maybe they are doing blu aura everywhere because it's the blue update.
When Gods and Glory will be released, city of tears and deepnest will have golden fog.

Agreed on everything stated. I don't think anybody wanted those things changed either.

Yes please fix this
