The Watcher Knights got more difficult at some point?
Just finished watching Northernlion's fight with The Watcher Knights and completing it on the 4th attempt and with the basic nail and only 5 HP
https://youtu.be/7ngOowGxt9g?t=21m4s

I tried to fight these with A LOT better nail/hp/charms and spent nearly 4 hours without success. I can't help but wonder if the Watcher Knights got more difficult on an later update or did I just played bad and NL played great!?

I hear a lot of people saying Watcher Knights are supposedly one of the hardest bosses in this game, and yet I completely steam-rolled them on my first attempt.

I really think it depends on the player.

No, the Watcher Knights actually got nerfed in the Grimm Troupe update, making them no longer immune to magic damage when attacking.

The Watcher Knights' difficulty depends 45% on RNG, 45% on Gear, and 10% skill.

Considering how early Watcher Knights are fought in speedruns, I'd say it is almost entirely skill. In many speedruns, the Watcher Knights are fought as soon as they have access to the right side of the City, as you can Nail-bouce off decorations to skip the requirement of the Mothwing Cloak.

They got buffed at some point so that they automatically roll if off-screen. This means old strats of dashing to the other side of the room and healing no longer works, so there's pretty much no time to heal now. Imo these guys are harder than nightmare king grimm, too much rng.

They do seem to bounce a bit more, but that just might be me. You can still heal a mask if they both have rolled and you're not near them.

I never struggled until I tried to beat the game in under 2 hours and I lost my first few runs to dying at them too many times. It's just a hard fight with a small chance of an undodgable attack. Shadow Dash makes the fight a cakewalk.

I thought I noticed this too! I had no problem taking them down for my 10 and 5 hr runs many months ago, but when I recently tried to Steel Soul them, I got absolutely murdered. I was almost convinced it was just lack of practice, but... *shrugs*

They killed my 5 hour run. Taught me that I need a different approach, that may include flukenest if I want to 5 hour run it.

Because of these tuckers, I just finished in 5h 08m 48s!

Note to self: Always get Shade Cloak first, leave them for last.

If you have the shade cloak then you can consistently beat them without getting hit. It is only without it that the fight feels slightly rng based.

Try sharp shadow charm and quick slash

But to get the Shade Cloak, you have to go through Kingdom’s Edge and then The Abyss, making a 5hr speedrun attempt much more difficult.

Add Dashmaster to speed up the battle further, since it increases the damage of Sharp Shadow.
