Hornet Part 2
I have to say, this is the first boss that Im still trying to defeat, what a handfull, Im also wondering how many fases she has, I have stunned her 3 times already, so Im assuming each sort of stun where whe bents to her knees is one fase of the fight or am I missing something?

Anyway attempt number 20 + incoming :P, any pointers into what charms to use that would make it a bit easier?

Thanks

I don't have much I could contribute. Be cautious and clear the traps I guess. Hornet seems to discourage aggressive playstyle so prioritizes healing over damaging. If you have Grimmchild, it will clear the traps for you with its attacks so that's something to consider I guess. Personally, I find that keeping a fair distance between me and her usually make her attacks fairly easy to dodge. If you're having trouble, maybe consider going somewhere else first if you have unexplored areas.

Just out of curiosity, what do people find difficult about Hornet? I'm not great at the game, but I heard many times of how difficult Hornet is, and I defeated her on the first go both times. In all other respect (except the final boss), I seem to be on the same level as everyone else, but I just don't see why people found her so much trouble. Are you having trouble with any specific part?

Its hard to explain honestly, I didnt have any trouble with her the first time, and I think Im rather close into defeating her for the second time, but out of all bosses I did she gives me for some reason a lot of trouble, granted havent done any expansion, final boss, or radiance.

I might need to upgrade a bit and yeah I might consider going somewhere else but with a bench nearby, I find it a bit of a waist of time to go all the way back.

As for exploration, I have done a fair part of exploration, can do some other things but a Black Beam is blocking some paths and I have a feeling its the way where hornet is that I need to go for that

You are correct that beating Hornet is necessary to getting pass the black beam.

I never had any difficulties with hornet. Never died to her once. It could be my charm setup lol

The best advice I can give you is the post I made in a similar thread a while back:

The one thing you need to keep in mind about her fight is that most of her attacks involve charging at you from range, whether by herself or throwing her weapon. While the fight is not the easiest, it's easy to see a pattern to it that you can follow.

First of all, don't charge at her for no reason. Since her attacks mostly involve charging at you, she's going to end up next to you after attacking a lot of the time. Every time she finishes an attack she's left open for you to hit her. Don't overdo it though, as the next attack is still going to happen. If you were to charge at her, you'd be taking away from your own reaction time window and making it harder to predict her in general. You also don't want to jump for no reason, as it greatly increases the risk of meeting her in the air and taking damage.

As far as individual attacks go:

Ground dash: When she does this, you can jump over her (and pogo to get a hit in) and depending on the distance between you and her after your landing, get a few more hits in before backing away from her.

Weapon throw: If she's on the other side of the room, don't bother trying to get close to her. It's possible, but wouldn't get you nearly as much damage. Use this opportunity to heal instead. If she's closer to you, jump over her weapon and get above her to pogo for a bit, or take the riskier version of doing a small jump to get in front of her, hitting her a bit, then jumping again to dodge the weapon as it comes back. As usual, back away from her after this attack is over.

Air dash: Typically makes a high jump then proceeds to dash towards your current location. The second she starts the dash, her location is fixed, therefore moving away from the spot a little bit is enough to dodge her and gives you time to get in a few hits before she does her next move.

Needle whip: This is either done on the air or ground. For the ground version, staying away is easier as you are naturally backing away from her after every attack. The air version is slightly predictable as she stops for a split second before doing it. However, for an easy way to be able to dodge both air dash and air needle whip, all you actually need to do is always be positioned diagonally from her when she jumps rather than straight below her. This is because she doesn't move much in the air when doing a normal jump, therefore won't be able to reach you unless she dashes, and if she does the needle whip instead, you'll already be out of range and be able to heal safely.

Spike traps: You have two options. Trying to take them out all the time or manipulating the fight in your favor. By this I mean taking the fight to one half of the room if the other half is tedious to clear out. While it is generally better to clear out all the spikes, they only really matter when you find yourself in their vicinity, so going out of your way to clear them isn't going to help you, it's going to leave you open to her attacks. i, if you want to make the fight go further in your favor, you can always do things among the lines of shooting a spell that hits both her and at least a few spikes.

She will also sometimes attempt to counter swipe at you, so I would recommend not attacking too much at once. It is possible to dash away from her in time though.

While all of the above works with any build, using a facetank build is also likely to get you through the fight. My personal way of fighting her involves a lot more patience.

Just spam desolate Dive, really it ends that fight in like 30 seconds (equip spell boasting charms if that helps too)

Idk if this helps lol but after the first few trial and errors with various charms, I stayed with Dream Shield because it helped with her spikes, Heavy Blow, Dashmaster and Steady Body. The rest is all practice and quick response to her attacks. Good luck!

A good rule for fighting hornet is when she's on the ground, you should be in the air, and when she's in the air, you should be on the ground

I beat her with 6 health, channelled nail, Stalwart shell and quick slash. Just tank all her hits and slash her until she gets stunned, then heal and clear the spikes, rinse an repeat. You just have to be carefull to not hit her when she's stunned, otherwise she wakes up immediately and leaves you no time to heal.

Pro tip: ALWAYS STAY ON THE GROUND, try not to jump as much cause you get butt ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in midair all the time

THanks for all the responses, I beated her yesterday but I went back first to upgrade my nail which really helped, I beated her in a couple of tries after all the struggles :P
