It took me over 5 hours to beat Lost Kin, am I that awful??
I have never had that much trouble ever beating any boss on any game. In Ori I got through the Ginso Tree sequence in 2 hours and that was a walk in the park compared to this boss fight. I had 7 bars of heath and I had Mask of Pride equpped and Longnail and some decent soul charm(I forget which one it was). And I couldn't beat him. I almost broke my steam controller I was so frustrated.

So I decided to go to the nearest bench, equip fragile heart and fragile strength and longnail and then I went back and beat him on my first try. So I am left to wonder, do those 2 charms make that much of a difference, or did I finally get lucky or am I an awful player and using those 2 charms is like cheating???

Any thoughts? I honestly don't know what to make of it other than I am annoyed that I wasted 5+ hours on 1 boss. I also think the developers were a little unfair making this boss fight so challenging. So much for increasing difficulty or something because none of the other bosses even came close to the difficuty so far of Lost Kin.

Again I love the game but this boss fight was extremely extremely difficult, too difficult imo for that point of the game.

Dream bosses were meant to be this tough. But I have to say 5h is a bit too extreme for the Lost Kin.
For this particular boss, the life saver charm is the Defenders Crest as it pretty much one hit kills any baloon that gets near to you.
And then there is the most OP charm of them all - the Quckistrike, which you'll be getting in area to the far right. That charm wrecks any non-teleporting (think Sould Master) bosses, including the Kin.

IMO: nah, Strength can sometimes help, but rarely is a must-have

It all depends on playstyle and charm setup. From what I'm getting, you're like me and go mostly for nail damage. In which case, you did what I would call a final resort. The two fragile charms you equipped are really good, but you should know that they come at a price. If you die with them equipped, they break and you have to buy them again. There had to be a counter-measure to adding 2 extra masks and increasing your nail damage by 50% (Which extends to other things like thorns of agony). Plus, you were fighting a dream boss. Dream bosses are supposed to be really challenging. Most people have trouble with at least one of them (Mine being Failed Champion). So don't feel bad. If this sort of thing happens again, just experiment. See if using a different charm works better, go explore a bit more for things like health (Or more charms), look for secret advantages (Few bosses have them, but the ones that do matter).

I was just now skimming through some old threads about this boss and someone else wrote that he gave up after 3 straight hours fighting Lost Kin because of the difficulty so I guess I'm not the only one who had trouble lol. But yeah, should have tried different charms, not spent 5 straight hours with Mask of Pride and LongNail and a soul charm. Those obv weren't cutting it.

Thanks. You seem to know your stuff. I guess I wanted to beat him without changing my charms for some odd reason. I got stubborn and wasted 5 hours because of it. But I'll be honest I was a little surprised that I beat him on the 1st try with my 2 fragile charms equipped. I wasn't expecting that.

And also, isn't there kind of a way to cheat so the fragile charms don't break? Just quit to main menu when you are about to die and you go back to the bench with all your health and the fragile charms still intact.

Yep, quitting to menu doesn’t count as a death so you can cheat your way out of any death penalties. Also, for future reference, deaths inside dreams don’t count as deaths (with some notable exceptions, if you leave a shade it counts as a death) so you can freely use the fragile charms on them.

You know I just realized this recently, kinda ruins the game in 1 sense - allows for lots of manipulation and cheating. I don't know, I don't see myself doing that.

I agree with that. The only thing I use it for is as a pseudo fast travel to the last bench if I went out of my way somewhere.

It's what makes steel soul less steel-y. But hey, whatever. I got the achievement easier that way, lol

me too

I did use it once during Steel Soul, but I feel like it was justified. My computer decided to give me an alert and minimize the game. Which doesn’t pause it. During the Trial of the Fool. While there was no floor. I was lucky to get beck into the game before I died, and suffice to say that I do not feel guilty about quitting to menu in the least.

He was pretty rough for me until I started playing fast and aggressive the same way he does. His ghosts are honestly the most annoying part.

This is a really good point. The stage control the extra enemies provide pump the difficulty way up. Defender’s Crest basically lets you ignore the balloons and cuts the difficulty by a good 40%.

I must have gripped the steam controller so tightly during the 5 hour marathon that my right pinkie is kinda numb still, 10 hours later. It's super irritating. Again wow what a boss.

I know that feel, I was the same after the boss of the second dlc pack
