Also if you're talking about the False Knight boss, no, you didn't miss anything. (btw the game is quite hard, don't be fooled by it's art style).
There's a spell ability you can get by bypassing him (make him hit the left wall of the arena) or by defeating him, it won't make the fight any easier... but getting that spell/ability is necessary to progress in the game, however if you cannot defeat the False Knight, you will get stuck at later (harder) non-optional bosses... so, yeah, you need to *cough* "git gud".
If you're talking about the Gruz Mother... well, she's even easier than the False Knight, sooo... yes, you need to improve your dodging, or you WILL have a bad time.
Well, thanks, lol. I thought maybe I missed something in the are to the left but I guess I just have to defeat him, I believe it is the False Knight. It just makes it hard for me not having any dash or anything to dodge attacks. I liek hard games so I'll try as many times as needed. (ง •̀_•́)ง
Well, you will soon get a dash ability, but the game will give you harder challenges to compensate for that. :P
Good luck, have fun!
Though I got another question, do I have to just explore everything and find my way to the next bosses? I noticed there are some areas I can't get to without more skills.
Yeah, Hollow Knight likes to train players before bosses with weaker versions of them with similar attacks... but not always :P
Yes, this is what Metroidvanias usually are about, including a lot of backtracking to explore places you couldn't reach previously after you obtain new abilities (remember places where the floor was "jiggling" below you or too high to reach, etc... also don't worry about some black mist barriers you find relatively soon, you didn't miss an upgrade for them, they just usually are found way sooner than the ability to cross them, plus there are always ways around them). You can do and go wherever you want and the game will usually reward you with several optional and important things for this.
You should have a "City Crest" by now and finding where to use it should be your goal, after doing that the game will finally provide you will a *slightly* clearer guidance on what you should do next, however it's still up to you where do you want to go.
Also, It's highly recommended you buy and use map markers to remind yourself of places you couldn't reach or get past yet.
