New Game+ =/= Steel Soul Mode

So I'm getting really far in the game and I'm already excited for my next playthrough. But I'm bummed out there's no real New Game+ or another way to play through the game.

Steel Soul mode isn't my thing; No way am I risking that kind of frustration on my 2nd playthrough
Kinda any DLC or update would update at least some kind of Hard Mode or anything to spruce up replayability.

I understand HK is very non-linear, and that's awesome - But still, It'd be nice to have more ways to play the game other than the brutal 1 life mode.

Any suggestions for another playthrough? I'm thinking some self-imposed limitations or a particular order... I have no idea to be honest. I just want something to change it up as I doubt we'll get another kind of mode.


P.S. Someone thought about having a Boss Rush mode to the Coliseum. I'm 1000x for this.
How much money would I have to dump on TeamCherry for more DLC? and a NewGame+ type content? Somewhere around 60~120k ? I think that'd be alright.
Is it possible to kickstart for more DLC? lol Assuming they're willing and would like to make DLC with love of course.

Well the major thing you can do for a second playthrough is go for the speedrun achievements. They encourage challenging bosses at a time when you would normally wait to get upgraded some more.

If speedrunning isnt't your thing though, I would say something like a permanent overcharmed run or a minimal upgrade run (don't get the spell upgrades, limit nail upgrades to one or two, etc). Maybe even a spell only run(only attack before you get Vengeful Spirit and after that only to generate soul when you don't have/can't reach with the Dream Nail).

Edit: Or you could try modding, there's a boss rush mod, and then there's the Lightbringer mod that replaces your nail with a ranged attack.

You could try different charm setups for your second playthrough. Steel soul isn't new game plus, I agree. That said, steel soul also isn't that bad. Just assume you have 1 less health than you do in normal mode. Once you get within 1 hit of dying, pause the game and restart. You could also attempt speedruns to see how fast you can complete the game.

For self-imposed house rules? Maybe try running without the compass? You should have a vague memory of each zone so seeing if you can get from place to place only relying on landmarks could be interesting.

You can also try to go no additional mask shards run, for example, or with wasted shade only (die in the beggining, skip the shade, never kill it again even if died in other places), and all that sort of stuff. Hollow Knight actually can provide a various types of self-entertaining. I personally want to try out the Grimmchild only run. Or Grimmchild only Trial of fools, lol.

If I were you I would expand that to a minimal nail/spell run at least, allow other types of damage lke Dream Shield, Sharp Shadow, Spore Shroom, etc. I've done the Trial of the Fool like that, and from experience I can say that Grimmchild only is not a particularly good idea (it's a little too inaccurate for it imo)

Update. Actually fockin did Trials of the Warrior and the Conqueror on the first try, only the Fool Trial remains. No nail, no damaging spells, no Thorns of Agony, no Defender's Crest, no poggo, no Sporeshrooms. Nightmare Juniour Grimm wrecks the ♥♥♥♥ out of Colloseum :D

Nice, I didn’t find him that good, but he was definitely more of a help than Glowing Wonb or Weaversong (they didn’t make it through the test phase of Trail of the Warrior). When I did that, most of the damage was from Sharp Shadow and Dream Shield, though it took was fewer tries than I was expecting. Good luck with becoming the truest of Fools.

That took 2 tries, but I diiiid it. I feel Myself an idiot. I guess, it would be more legit, if I would recorded the process, but unfortunately, not today, screenshots only and My honest word, that the Grimm was the only one damage source. I feel Myself even better than when I completed the Path of Pain.

Made a vid off of that, competed again. It's official, I played this game for too much.
