Exploring it early is good. There are things you'll want to pass through it for, but you won't be able to fully access it until later in the game.
The top-left area of Fog Canyon is accessible once you have the Mothwing Cloak and Mantis Claw (though you can also just wait until you have Isma's Tear and ignore the platforming). This area leads to the Overgrown Mound, where you obtain the upward spell Howling Wraiths.

The top-right area of Fog Canyon is accessible once you get Isma's Tear or Shade Cloak. This area is where you can find Cornifer's Map for Fog Canyon. There is also a charm notch hidden around this area.

The mid-left area of Fog Canyon is accessible once you get Isma's Tear. This area leads to the Queen's Garden.

The mid-right area of Fog Canyon must be accessed from the top-right and requires Isma's Tear to access. This area is home to the Teacher's Archive, and one of the endgame objectives.

The bottom-left area of Fog Canyon is home to Millibelle the Banker.

The bottom-right area of Fog Canyon leads to Queen's Station and by extension, the Fungal Wastes.

To reiterate: you NEED to cross the Fog Canyon pretty early in the game, but you don't get to explore it fully until much later.

You don't need to go through Fog Canyon to reach the Fungal Wastes, you can also enter from the Crossroads. But the Fog Canyon entrypoint is much closer to the Stagway and Cornifer's map of Fungal Wastes, so its more convenient.

Oh right, the mothwing cloak is enough to get on that ledge. For some reason I thought you needed more than that.

I accidentally sequence broke this game by using the slight boost height that damage deals and hopping over the acid lake at the bottom of Greenpath. I almost lost like 400 monies to this but managed to recover them by sequence breaking again.

You mean you got into Queens Garden?
I thought there was a big rock blocking the way, so you need to unlock it from the QG side?

TIL. Never went through Fog Canyon until late game because the map was behind the shade cloak lock. Just assumed the entire place was behind that thing and just left every time.
