Is Grimm Even a Bug?
Grimm doesn't even originate from Hallownest, and there's no proof that he's even a bug. He is considered a deity by those around him, so does he even have insect orgins?

I'm assuming he's a bat, since in his fights he falls apart into a swarm of bats a few times.
So, no. I don't think he's a bug.

Not really sure.
There are non-bug sentients, like Monomon and the White Lady, so it's possible.
There are deities that also seem to be "bugs" though, like the Radiance, which seems to be a moth.

Well, not all characters are insects. There are also shades, fungi, arachnids, mollusks, jellies, etc.

But I don't know what exactly Grimm is.
Its possible that he isn't any known organism, as Grimm is technically just a host body for the Nightmare Heart.

I don't think Grimm's a bug or any type of animal that is.
He definitely has vampire/bat features along with spider ones (check the legs when he backs up) as well as... ehmm pufferfish? idk really :)

Classic vampires were frequently depicted as shapeshifters.

I thought he might be a Wasp because of what Grimmchild looks like... but since he doesn't have a stinger I don't think it's the case... I really like the design of all new characters from The Grimm Troupe though! Makes you wonder what the 3rd DLC will be about.

I noticed they changed Hollow Knight's banner on the store page a week or so ago. I wonder if the new lifeblood banner has anything to do with the next expansion.

Oh, you're right! It's a new piece of artwork... I've never seen it before (anywhere else) so it might be related to new content.

Theoretically speaking, Grimm SHOULD be a mosquito, since they are baically the vampires of the bug world (and Grimm seems heavily inspired by vampires), but since he doesn't have the part mosquitos have to drain blood, he may not be. The Grimmchild has wings and flies around, so that may help support this idea, but like I said, I doubt this is actually true, its just food for thought. ( All this is assuming he is even a bug in the first place)

He can be some kind of butterfly or moth. Did you know that there is an actual blood drinking moth? And butterflies will drink blood if they get the chanse. Plus there are quiet a few black and red coloured species. Just saying.

Yeap, there is legit a vampiric moth/butterfly that are actively being studied. So he's likely a mixture of the two bugs, leaning mostly towards butterfly with bat like themes to emphasis the type of bug he. They likely did this to make him stand out because the actual blood sucking moths/butterflies are actually really plain looking, typically pale brown but large.

Also he has a similar body type to the butterfly singer ghost in the city of tears, the only major base body difference is the way their wings are designed and their horn/hair designs.

I don't remember where but something mentions Hallownest being a land of bug and beast. So he might be a beast? Although the vampiric moth sounds cool.

It's worth pointing out that the Grimmchild has a thorax like a bug.
