Do I get the final Grimmchild if I beat Grimm in the Pantheon?
Hi there! I'm currently running for completion, I'm 106%, and I'm challenging Nightmare King Grimm from his sleeping place, in order to get the final form of Grimmchild (so future quests will be a bit easier). I got really close to win, probably missing just a couple hits because I went even a bit over the 3rd fireballs phase (so less than 25% health). Then I lost because my Descending Dark hit his head a moment before gaining invulnerability. Ugh...

Now the problem is, I can't stand this man anymore, I'm getting a bit tired from contiuously fighting him over and over until a little movement does not go wrong and does not make me explode. A little detail decides the battle, and I think I've tried 200 times. That may be enough. I've read that by challenging him in the Pantheon, you aren't forced to waste 2 charm notchs on Grimmchild (mandatory to battle him in his home). So I'd like to try beating him there (and I think I will).

The question is: will I still get the final form of Grimmchild if I beat Grimm in the Pantheon? Or maybe the story changes, and I only get the achievement of beating him, but without the final form of Grimmchild? Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately not. The battle in the Pantheon isn't part of the Grimm Troupe quest. You still need to beat him in Dirtmouth.

If what you want is the % for the Grimm Troupe Quest, you can banish the troupe instead of fighting NKG. You will not get the upgraded Grimmchild this way.

I personally prefer to fight him, but you need to do both (in separated savefiles) to get all achievements anyway.
If you can beat him in the Godhome, you can likely beat him in Dirtmouth.

Also note that if you do fight him in Godhome, know that the Grimmchild will not work against him.

To get the last form of Grimmchild yoi have to best him in his Tent at Dirtmouth.

I'm pretty sure you need to defeat nkg as part of the quest before it lets you challenge him in godhome

You do not. He shows up in the Pantheon of Hallownest regardless.

I am sure they meant Hall of Gods.

He shows up in the pantheon regardless. Not sure about when he appears in the Hall of Gods, though. If you have to encounter him in the pantheon, or if you have to beat him or just encounter him in Dirtmouth.

The only boss that doesn’t show up is Grey Prince Zote, if you leave Zote to die.

Zote is my least favorite fight, I wish I had left him to die.

Thanks everyone! I'll carry on with this battle then. At least you saved me from having to defeat him twice!

I want to get the % but also the Grimmchild, now it's become a matter of personal pride. Instead, I don't personally feel getting all the achievements - I'm getting everything I can in this savefile but I don't want to get another adventure for the couple ones missing (also I would never be able to win Steelsoul). Thanks again!

Wow, after having tried about 200+ times, I finally did it in the 2nd attempt after receving your answers. Maybe I needed more self-confidence? Or maybe it's because I changed one charm and it was the right charm?

For anyone wondering, I'll leave the charms here. Thanks again for your help!

- Grimmchild [2 slots]: mandatory, only wastes space.
- Unbreakable Strenght [3]: a must-have for me, in this stage you hit by nail most of the times, so I couldn't do it without this. It's the only charm that deserves 3 slots in this battle.
- Unbreakable Heart [2]: knowing Grimm hits for 2 masks it's not completely necessary to use it, but still it's one more hit you can take, so it's still a very important one.
- Glowing Womb [2]: the true discovering of this battle. Before trying it, I could rarely reach 50%. It totally changes the whole thing, because the kinghtlings are very strong, and their only downside is they waste soul, but this battle is most of everything by nail, so you can do it. First of all, this charm makes the first 25% very easy and fast, because your first 4 knightlings and your next 4 hit the opponent immediately. After that, if you don't waste your soul with spells (just rarely use descending dark) and heal (I recommend to hear the 2 masks not more than one time in the battle), they will keep doing very decent damage, following Grimm even when you're not able to hit him, or when you get hit. Without Glowing Womb, I'd NEVER be able to do this.
- Fury of the Fallen [2]: the final weapon. Before trying it, I kept using Weaversong (I love Weavers), but after 200 attempts (sigh), I realized I had to try something different. I've NEVER used Fury of the Fallen before because I don't want to rely on a rare and difficult situation like having just 1 mask. But I've tried it here, and won at first attempt. When you have only 1 mask, it makes you stronger; but, more importantly, it makes your knightlings stronger. If you happen to have a little soul when you have 1 mask, your knightlings will deal TONS of damage, making the last chance possible.

Congratulations.

I never tried Glowing Womb in this fight, but it makes sense. You will have the downside that you won't be able to heal, since it drains your soul, but relying on healing against NKG isn't a good idea anyway.

I personally would try to use it with Quickslash, because you will land more hits on him, and gather more soul to spread more minions. But it would change the setup a bit.

What is more important is that it worked for you. You can now challenge him at the Godhome, using all the notches available for you slots, and trying different tactics.
