What is the hardest ending to achieve?

So I'm doing my first playthrough of the game, and I'm attempting to 112% (or whatever it's called).
I read somewhere, something about 1800 essence, but some people also say this isn't needed. So what are the requirements for the ending that takes the most effort?
Should I get the void heart?
Are 1800 essence required?
PS. When I say the most effort, I mean the ending that requires the most of the whole game finished, not just the ending with the hardest boss.

The hardest 'main' Ending requires the Void Heart and defeating the Radiance. You do indeed need 1800 essence for that.
But the Godmaster updated added and even harder Ending: It requires beating the final Pantheon in Godhome.
Also, Endings don't count towards completion, and completion does not influence the endings directly.

EDIT: Just a Warning: You can get every Ending on the same save, but after you acquire the Void Heart it is no longer possible to get the first Ending.

Oh okay! Is it possible to beat the ending in godhome after getting the 'true ending' (the ending with 1800 essence)?

Yes. When you return to a save after getting an ending you return to the last bench you rested at meaning you can get multiple endings on one save. Endings don't alter the game world in any way if you return, so you can try as many as you want without any consequences.
