Can I get multiple endings on one save file?

Or does it lock me out of a different ending if I get one the first time. I've heard just killing the dreamers and fighting the hollow knight gets you an ending, but there's apparently another where you need a special charm. I'm new to the game so this is probably a stupid question, but I don't accidentally want to have to restart the whole game because I accidentally got the wrong ending.

It will return you to the bench located right outside the final boss chamber, so no worries! In fact, it's best to beat said boss at the first chance you get, since once you obtain a certain item you will not be able to get the "first" ending on that save file.

Not a stupid question at all, a natural one to arrive at especially if you want to save time and not play through the whole game more than you would want to.
