I dreamnailed Joni by mistake and feel horrible

It sounds ridiculous and i found out that i´ve maybe an OCD but after dreamnailing Joni by mistake, after i´ve listend to him, i feel i have to restart the whole game. It saved and he will never come back! I wish Team Cherry would have made a statement what happens when some NPC got dreamnailed, so i can continiue playing.


I know it is just a videom game and i try to tell myself that i just exaggerate but somehow i wish it was a good thing dreamnailing him. I know people debate about dreamnailing NPC Ghosts and what happens to them afterwards for a long time. The fact that Joni talks to you directly about his chrarm shows that he is aware of the situation and is somehow present and knows that something is going on.

I just need certainty. So please Team Cherry - tell what happened to Joni after dreamnailing him! I hope it is something good.

In the very least, the dream warriors don't seem very bothered to come along after you beat them. Joni'll probably be about as fine as a dead person can be.

Pretty sure they're ghosts trapped by the Radiance's dream magic, just like the infected husks. So yes, using the dream nail frees them.

But you get essence from doing that. So I suppose the action leads to the ghosts being consumed by your dreamnail...

Wiki states that it could be imprints of memories from ghosts, since almost none of them feel the passage of time. Don't sweat it, i think that the bug ghost's don't even realize they have a ghost and are chilling with some bug tea in heaven or some ♥♥♥♥

Essence is fragments of dreams. So basically you're freeing ghosts that are under the same sort of dream magic of the Radiance all the other infected are. The essence are the remnants of the dream magic that was broken by you freeing the ghost.

I believe the whole thing with the seer is that she is of the race that used to worship the Radiance, but has since realized the goddess's true intentions. So she gives you the dreamnail as form of repentance for the sins of her race.

Yep, I think the "ghosts" are just more complicated toughts and dreams. Nobody sure how dreams and essence works, but I made a little "dream tier list" of my own:
1. Toughts:
Only text, telling about what the creatures currently thinking about or what the corpse's last thought were before it died. Soul can be harvested from living creatures' toughts. Doesn't give the player essence.
2. Normal ghosts:
Embodiment of the dead's last toughts. Mostly happens when a bug doesn't realise it's death (due to happening quikly, unexpectedly or during sleep) (for example Poggy Throax waited for the dinner, but later HE became the dinner) . Thoght they act like the spirits of the bugs, they are just hollow thoughts whithout a spirit inside them. (as Voidbox said above, their spirits are probably in the afterlife). They only contain 1 essence.
2,5. Ghosts back from the afterlife
We see only one-two examples of this type: Cloth and maybe Vespa . They came back from the afterlife to say something. They have the spirit of the bug inside them and aware of the situation they're in. Dreamnailing them sends them back to the afterlife. This little connection to this world only contains one essence.
3. Dream warriors
They are the most complicated form of a bugs leftover toughts and dreams. Dream warriors mostly created when a strong or intelligent creature fails to finish it's duty. They still dedicated to their duty, even after death (but they have the warrior's spirit inside them). The spirit can only be freed by challenging and defeating them. Then their spirit gets freed, it realises it's situation. And then, when you finally cut the bindings that keeps the spirit in the normal world, the dream turns into 100-400 essence.
A special type of dream warriors are those, who were infected before dying. When the bug is killed, the Radiance keeps their spirit and essence in their body, and opens a gateway to the Dream Realm trough their corpse. In the Dream Realm, the Radiance recreates them, but with their strength and speed increased. When killed, the spirit leaves the Dream Realm and the body, giving the Knight essence.
This is pure speculation, only my vision of the ghosts.
