you have to find all grubs, all charms, all mask shards, all vessel fragments, all ability upgrades, all nail upgrades, a few dream bosses and many normal bosses, you have to complete the arena and defeat Grimm. That's all think :) i hope i could help you out
Another good time to heal might be when he does the attack where a bunch of tendrils shoot from the ground, but I've never tried it.
Another more obvious opportunity is after you stun him and he starts flying around as a bat thing.
My typical charm setup is Unbreakable Strength, Shaman Stone, Mark of Pride, and Long Nail. I like the offensive setup because killing things quicker means less stuff to dodge, and NKG isn't a very heal-friendly fight. (Shaman Stone is nice because a lot of bosses give you opportunities to just blast them with Abyss Shrieks, which is extremely powerful).
Here's how I approach this guy. He may be hard to get used to at first, but after you memorize his telegraphs, he's actually one of the easiest bosses to ace because he is very controlled in his attacks. For this fight, I rely mainly on charged nail attacks to deal damage, so if you want to do that, keep your finger on the charging button pretty much the whole time (no need for the nail art charm though).
For the attack where he dive kicks you and then dash kicks, you can dodge the initial dive by simply dashing away. Then quickly jump over him to avoid the second hit. At this point, you can hit him from behind with a charged nail attack, and I'm pretty sure the hang time after doing that is enough to keep you out of the flame trail he leaves behind (if not, just tap out a quick double jump after hitting him). So in short, dash away from the first diagonal kick, jump over his horizontal dash, hit him from behind with a charged nail attack, and double jump away from the flames if necessary.
For the attack where he slices at you, jumps into the air, and throws flame balls, I usually don't go for an attack here. Instead, as SOON as he appears in position for this attack, I dash away from him and keep walking. If you do it soon enough, not only will you avoid his physical contact, but your invincible dash will recharge in time for you to dash through the fire balls completely (MUCH easier than trying to find the safe spots).
And here's a tip about how you should be moving between his attacks: I think it's a good idea to try to keep center stage, but try to keep walking in the same direction in the moments before the next attack is coming. Why? Because if you turn around right when he goes for a dive kick, he'll nail you in the head (unless you react and dash in time). Walking in one direction just spaces you better for avoiding attacks, in my opinion.
For the attack where he shoots flaming birds, my approach here is to just jump and dash through the middle of the birds and hit him with the charged dash attack (this gives you extra air time AND deals some damage). Just make sure not to go for it too early or you'll land on the last bird he shoots out.
For the attack where he floats in midair and pillars of flame burst from the ground, I try to approach him at such a pace that the last pillar erupts right beside him while I'm right under him. This way, I can safely unload a ton of Abyss Shrieks at him, dealing a TON of damage. Or you can hit him with the nail; either works. Just be careful because the flame the pillar leaves behind it a little wider than the actual pillar itself. If you can't space it out like that, then you can just keep moving to avoid the pillars and land a hit or 2 as you pass under him.
For the attack where he bloats up in the middle of the screen and shoots a million tiny balls of fire, you rely just have to rely on your platforming skills here. You only need short hops for 1 fireball and tall hops for 2 fireballs; wings aren't necessary. Also, try moving in a circular pattern where you're constantly walking away from him and then jumping towards him when you need to jump over balls. This gives you more time to react to balls since their relative speed is lowered as you walk away, and it increases the chance that you'll clear them with your jumps if you jump towards them. I don't ever go for magic attacks here because I don't think it's worth it. If you're absolutely sure he's about to do this attack, you can unload an Abyss Shriek and dash the hell out of there before he starts shooting.
maybe look online what you are missing and look for it specific. So your not blindly searching around the map.
The strategy is this: you will only deal damage when he is hovering and using the fire pillars. you avoid the fire pillars (don't use dash), run to him and jump striking him with your nail (you can do at least two strikes every time). When he uses the "dragon projectiles" you use your vengeful spirit to damage him from distance. During all his other attacks you just work on avoiding him. when he does the simple dash in your direction you can dash through him dealing damage with your sharp shadow charm. when he strikes in your direction with the fire trail, you have to double jump to avoid it, one jump+dash is not enough.
That is basically it, avoid everything, deal damage when he stops moving and uses the fire pillars. NKG is one of the hardest bosses so don't feel bad about having to try several times, learn his attack patterns and you will see how easy it becomes.
