Path of pain
Who honestly looked at this and thought "yeah this'll be loads of fun for the players!" Like did someone at team cherry come in after having someone ♥♥♥♥ their wife, kick their dog, beat their alzhiemers ridden dad in their guest room, and spill coffee grounds in their keurig, and think "Hey you know I ♥♥♥♥ing hate everyone lets make a level as frustrating as possible."

Jokes aside though this has honestly made me want to drop the game for awhile. Like I've never had the aptitude to really get the hang of hard games. Like my first runs on DS took around 100 hours each no joke.
Inb4 git gud because I know it's coming

Its called The Path of Pain for a reason.

There is absolutely no obligation to complete the path of pain. You can skip it completely. I only knew about this path because of guides.

At the end, you gain very little, in fact just a small scene, that I will not spoil, but you can see it on youtube. The feeling of not being good on hard games turns into a great satisfaction, after beating this challenge.

And if you think this is the worst challenge of the game, it isn't. Pantheon of Hallownest is still the hardest one.

You think this kind of challenge isn't fun? Try Super Meat Boy, then. The entire game is based on perfectly timing platforming, and it isn't only one optional level. There are people that likes this kind of challenge for sure.

Haha you know if a level's name tells you you're gonna suffer, you better be prepared to suffer or else the devs didn't do their job right
I've never seen someone complain that "I wanna kill the Camilia 3" is hard or unfun, even though it is probably the hardest game (and possibly most unfun) that I am aware of, but it makes it pretty clear that that is the whole point.
I've seen people complain about pettier stuff, like the watcher knights. Everyone has their own limits, and to some people, overcoming those is the entire satisfaction of playing.
I rather enjoyed PoP, even though it took me 3 hours and I suffered. I thought it was fun.
I don't think Gorb or Elder Hu are fun, albeit easy. Because they make you wait, without feeling challenged, and there is nothing I hate more than that. I never felt like I was forced to sit around unproductively in PoP. Every step was a step of me learning, or getting closer to completion.

Same here. I was at the very end of the path, and I almost quit the challenge, but I realized that I would have to begin from the very start again, then I forced myself a bit more until I finally could finish it. I don't intend to try it again though. One time is enough for me.

Just going to respond to most of the comments at once.

The issue is that I've done most of the game. I really don't have much left except repeat playthroughs and maybe that steel soul challenge. Obviously I haven't done everything else in my current playthrough, but sooner or later I'm gonna have to come back when there's nothing left.

Also thanks for the recommendation I will not be buying or playing super meat boy.

I mean gratz I guess? I'm glad you guys enjoyed it at least, but I doubt that's going to change my mind on it.

You fool, I have already inb4ed. Take your L and begone!

I mean I'm gonna give it another go, but I honestly don't understand the obsession with difficulty. Like the reason I picked up games like DS and Hollow Knight was because they just felt like cool games not because I wanted to be a dude bro and complete them for bragging rights.

I got to the end and got killed by two knights.
Yeah I'm gonna kill myself.

Or at least I think that's the end

I could see it was difficult, but nowhere near 100 hour difficult. It only took me about half an hour to beat it. There are plenty of checkpoints in there, and it’s basically impossible to die anywhere besides the knights. And if you die to the knights, you shouldn’t be trying the path of pain.

Like I saw the knights one time and forgot their patterns I think it's pretty reasonable to die to them when I'm tilted from the rest of the path.

If you have played other platformers like celeste or SMB then path of pain is kinda like that, it even gives you a checkpoint near the end so you dont have to do everything again
