How many times CAN I use the dream gate ?

So , I’ve recently obtained the dream gate ability and , while it’s been quite useful when I have to challenge same boss again and again , there’s a small question keeps puzzling me , which might be important .

I’ve come to know that I’m gonna need to collect 2600 dream essence in order to see whatever happens when It’s done , however , it turns out that the dream gate requires 1 essence to be activated .

The question is , are these essences limited ? 2600 essence are nearly all of essence that I can collect in the entire game ?
If that’s the case , at certain point I will never be able to reach the 2600 line if I continue to spend essence on dream gate .

Or , perhaps that’s not how it works ? Even if I keep spending the essence , somehow I will still be able to reach the 2600 line ? If so , then does that mean that I can spend the essence on dream gate almost infinitely ?

Well , the essence doesn’t seem like unlimited to me . It can only be gained by defeating the dream bosses , or interacting dream trees , both of which are one - off object unlike the creatures that generate Geo almost infinitely . Even though it’s more than 2600 , the essence still has to be limited .

I’ve already spent less than 20 essence on dream gate . Exactly how many times am I supposed to use the dream gate , without ruining my opportunity to collect 2600 essence ? I want to know for sure , before it’s too late .

For what it’s worth , my current state is one step away from challenging Hornet for the second time . also my English can often be broken , for that I’m sorry .

I think there is a little over 2800 essence in the game. Also for every essence you use, an enemy has a chance to drop essence.
Don't worry about spending it all, you should be fine.

tldr version; don't worry too much about spending essence, there's plenty in the game to never make it hard to hit 2600.

Long version: there's about 3200 essence to be collected from one-time sources in the game, however if you've spent any essence using the Dream Gate, the odds of randomly getting essence from killing an enemy go up by a factor of 4. That means that even if you spend 600 essence using the Dream Gate, you can get that back from just killing enemies.

To add to the above, you can use the Dream Wielder charm to double the drop rate of Essence. Also, you don't need 2600. You only need 2400 to get the achievement, and only 1800 to actually get anything with any impact on the game itself.

If you defeat all dream warriors and dream bosses you end up with 2700, if you kill all ghost NPCs and find all the whispering roots you end up with 3208. So around 300-508 times is the maximum. But like Boksha mentioned already, you can't get locked out because enemies have a chance to drop essence.
