I think DC is a damn fine game but I do take some issue with the simple stage design and especially boss variety.
Since both games occupy this "metroidvania" genre I'll compare them as such. And specifically as a metroidvania,a genre where exploration is king, HK is built with all of the genre's strengths and DC is a game that's unique features kinda hold it back from being a better metroidvania game. That's the way I see it anyways.
Even just comparing the combat though, I still prefer HK's boss fights and the character's move set more too.
That's kind of the thing with roguelikes & roguelites, you trade the quality that comes with carefully hand-crafted levels, for more replay value, and a fresh challenge every time you start the game.
I've not played Dead Cells, it's quite high on my wishlist, but it's not a game I've got around to getting yet. So all I can speak for is Hollow Knight, and darn, it's my game of the year for last year, and the best darn Metroidvania I've ever played, finally de-throning Super Metroid. If you get Hollow Knight (and you should), just be prepared for the start of the game being a little bit on the weak side. I did not fall in love with it until I beat the first boss, and 3 people I know have expressed similar oppinions, the game starts alright, and then becomes amazing.
That being said, buy Hollow Knight first. It is, without question, my favorite game of 2017.
You should buy both.

Now Nuclear Throne on the other hand, now that's an addictive Roguelike.
And then there's Wizard of Legend, which I will probably be glued to the moment it comes out, unless of course the next Hollow Knight update ends up happening at the same time, in which case I will prioritize that.
