Is it me or Nail Arts are worthless against bosses?
It seems that "Quck Slash" charm is > anything else. It almost feels like bosses have their HP based on amount of hits, not actual damage.
Spaming everything with quick slash seems to work better then trying to make timed nail arts, especially considering that they will leave you open for quiet some time and since a lot of bosses dont suffer from stagger (hey there, heavy blow, the most worthless charm in existence).

So... What's the deal?

EDIT: Yep, something is definetely up with Nail Arts when used against bosses.
Fighting Grey Prince right now (screw this guy) and quick slash gets him knocked out a LOT quicker then trying to skillfully used nail arts and only hit him with them.
What the hell?

EDIT 2: Welp, screw nail arts in that boss battle... They do nothing but get me killed.
Curse you, R1 spamming! You wont leave me alone even in this game!

Really good players can make use of nail arts with Nailmaster's Glory. I personally need to retrain myself to get used to nail arts. So it's not entirely useless. Also, it's the amount of damage that counts, not the number of hits. Whenever you upgrade your nail you do more damage and if you check out the wiki, you get numbers for boss health. You could also just test this plainly when you hit normal mobs with the base nail, then hit them again with the upgarded nail. Weak ones that used to take 2 hits to die will now die in 1 with the upgraded nail. Keep upgrading and you'll see results with even stronger mobs.

I find nail arts to be trash, with ther charge times. I mainly use Quick Slash or Fragile Strengh depending on whether I can hit them often or not. At some point you get a charm that makes nail arts charge up thrice as fast, but their still not very good. I just get them for the charm and the completion.
EDIT
And it is the damage that counts, Fragile Strength is better than Quick Slash

Its obvious that nail arts deal more damage based on experience with normal bosses and yes, i did utilize nailsage's charm.

And yet... Spamming the boss seems to get him staggered (and give me a window to heal) a lot faster than nail arts. I dont know, maybe i just miss them a lot? Didn't seem to be the case.
They still render you more open to get hit with all those recovery frames. Perhaps its just this boss, i dont know, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥...
Also my finger is getting tired of holding attack button all the time.

Yeah, its starting getting obvious to me that nail arts are just not good against THIS particular boss...
He moves around too much and is too agile, making me miss my nail arts all the damn time or even worse - get hit.
To just harass him with normal attacks seems to be much more effective since you have more time for retaliation,

Which boss is it?

Grey Prince Zott, 2nd fight.
He is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ worst.
Its not even him alone that's an issue, its that HE KEEPS SPAWNING THESE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MINIONS THAT GET IN THE WAY AND I HAVE ISSUES WITH HITTING LITTLE SMALL THINGS THAT JUMP ALL OVER THE PLACE, ESPECIALLY WHEN I NEED TO DODGE GIGANTIC BLAST WAVES AT THE SAME TIME.

Good ol' gank banging.
What attempt is it? 20? 30? I didn't even count.

I honestly feel like the game's mechanics start contradicting themselves at this point.
The bossfights become so butt-tight that you have no time to heal except for specific windows when boss get staggered, but as the boss keeps spawning 9000 enemies on the screen to haunt you while he's staggered - there's no way you are going to just heal peacefully, or you are just going to get hit.
And in the same time you ARE going to get hit during the bossfight because there's no freakin way you are doding a boss and 3 of his minions who jump all over the place in RNG fashion.

I'm going ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane over here because SOMEHOW this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ keeps predicting my movements and jumping / attacking into exactly same place where im trying to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ escape from them!
Its the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ worst!
HOW?!

For what it's worth. I don't use nail arts at all. It's there, and like I said, some good players make excellent use of it. Holding and releasing feels entirely different from tapping for me. So I opt for tapping instead and it's served its purpose for what I need.

Also...umm... take a break maybe? I get the sense this boss is frustrating you. Not a good time to keep going.

The only use for nail arts is for taking down shielded critters.
It's pretty bad on bosses because the animation holds you in position for too long

Its fine... I keep testing new charms combos outside of my comfort zone and i found an interesting combo that works wonders.
My only regret is that how few charm notches this game offers. I have like 9 right now and it feels extremely limiting sometimes.

I wish this game had castlevania like equipment and loot drops :/
Don't really like modern metroidvanias due to handcrafted loot and small amount of content regarding that, SoTN was so damn complete RPG and dungeon crawling wise
Nail Arts can be good if know how to utilize them to their full potential.
But Spell builds are just stronger and don't require nearly as much presicion to use effectively.

The reason Quick Slash seems to work so much better against bosses is that while they do have a flat amount of health, there is a hidden mechanic in place that makes bosses stagger sooner if you hit them in quick succession. Quick Spash will almost always outclass Nail Arts if you are able to rapid hit a boss reliably. Nail Arts really shine against bosses with limited vulnerability periods due to either teleportation, awkward positioning, short openings(e.g. Soul Master, Soul Tyrant, Nightmare King Grimm, most of the dream warriors, Flukemarm)

I found them quite useful depending on the boss and charms there are charms to lower the charge time of the spin slash for example, I imagine if you have a deflect build the charge slash can do wonders to.
