The charms I used were Grub Song and Soul catcher and Thorns of Agony. Anything that can give you more soul/make you hit harder.
His fight has two stages. The first stage he's got three attacks that I can remember.
1. teleport around and shoot energy balls.
Here you'll want to dodge the energy ball then dash in and get as many hits as possible before he moves again. Never heal during this one. Unless you have the charm that cuts down on your heal time you just won't have enough time and will just waste soul.
2. Desolate dive.
it's telegraphed pretty obviously. just dash and dodge.
3. go across the screen with twirly energy balls.
Here I went all the way to the other side of the screen. Healed once. then walked forward and timed my walk so that energy balls missed me. I attacked if I thought I could and hit him with spells if I felt I could spare it.
Then you think you beat him. Spoiler: you haven't. He crashes through the floor and you end up underneath with an enraged soul master. So if you have any soul, heal up fast as soon as it looks like you've won.
Once you fall down, he's gonna desolate dive like crazy. Dodge for you life. I hung out in one of the corners and wall jumped then dashed when he got too close.
After desolate dive, he'll stay in place for a bit. Time to hit him like crazy. If you have ok HP and Soul, use a spell now.
The second attack is where he throws energy balls at you. just as before, doge then dash and try to get a few hits in. If you get enough, you should finish him pretty fast.
I think these are his only attacks in this stage. Cant completely remember if I'm being honest. But yeah, hope this helps! There are probably lots of other strategies, but this one worked pretty well for me.
When fighting soul master, make sure not to be too greedy when trying to attack. It's best not to attack while he sends attacks at you. Attack between his different attacks. The second phase is easy. Just dodge all of his dive attacks by dashing right as he starts the dive(not when he raises up in the air) and attack during the spell attack, while being aware of the location the spells are coming from.
I'm not sure how many nail upgrades you can get before soul master, but defeating the mantis lords will open up many sections of the game, allowing you to get pale ore for more nail upgrades. Just warning you though, you are going to hate deepnest.
1. That way, when he does ground slam attack, you can just jump up to avoid it, because he can't appear directly above you, because a wall is there, so he spawns a bit to the left, which makes this attack easier. If you have wall/double jump, dodging the slam fakeout will be no problem either.
2. When Sould Master is doing the dash, you can just hide in right corner, he won't reach you there. Tested and worked on both Soul Master and Soul Tyrant. When he comes, just smack him in the face, as simple as that.
3. Homing balls attack normally can be quite painful when in the open. Normally if the ball flies below you when you jump, it may come back and hit you. Here, it will just get destroyed on the wall - all you have to do is jump. Sometimes, when he's close to you on the ground, you can dash towards him to deal extra damage.
4. Spinning balls attack is fairly simple. When he comes and you're next to the wall, there is space between the balls just so you can jump, strike, jump and strike again.
5. This strategy also gives you a ton of room for healing, because you know - everyone makes mistakes (besides one youtuber).
In this game, it's never good to be greedy with your attacks. Watch the boss, focus on dodging, and ocasionally attack.
