hand drawn
wtf does hand drawn even mean?? That they held the pens for their wacom tablets or cintiq monitors with their hands? As oppsosed to what? Their mouths? It's a good looking game for sure but i just don't get the why every non-3d sidescroller dev has to use that term as a selling point

It's...eh... not really a selling point quite. It's just describing the art style since they can take a few different forms. 3D is pretty straightforward, but 2D could be hand-drawn or it could be sprite-based. You should check out Youtube videos of the process of brining Cuphead to life to get a feel for what that entails. They literally draw page by page every single frame made by each unit and boss in the game. Of couse not everything is drawn by hand, but a large part of what players see on the screen is.

as the two above explained but the phrase is "hand drawn animation" which is another way of saying non-digitally animated. Each frame is a new drawing. Apose to other methods where they split the characters in to parts and pupet the parts. (not saying ether is better) If you want a clear example of this pupet animation look at Don't Starve

It's still digital. Unless they actually draw and scan every sprite on paper.

Also everything separate from the background in 2D is a sprite.

Actually that brings up a good point. There's obviously elements in the game that aren't hand drawn, but how many different kinds of hand drawn products can you have? Cup head was literally drawn on paper frame by frame and certain background assets were actual clay models they recorded on camera and just pasted into the game. No digital involvement there. But you could just as legitimately have digitally 'hand drawn' assets and still technically fit the category right?
