Sad this game didn't win any awards for VGA
It did get nominated once, but I felt it was deserving of much more. Team Cherry, I'm rooting for you guys. I hope you get one next year. :)

Cup head is nice but I feel hollow knight deserved it more. Guess being backed by MS realy pays off.

In these mainstream award ceremonies, the underdog rarely gets the spotlight.

Game awards are more of popularity contest rather than true best game. I admit most of the games you could nominate I had no idea existed or their purpose.

But you can't say this game should have one because every other game community would be saying that.

Of course I can it's my opinion

Hollow Knight had no chance to win, I mean...
Pewdiepie didn't play it saying that is "THE HARDEST GAME ON UNIVERSE!", which is a funny afirmation knowing that this guy has like 13 "HARDEST GAME ON WORLD/UNIVERSE/EVER".

Cuphead had a lot of advertising, likely assisted by microsoft, and internet exposure due to the game journalism controversy. Hollow knight didn't get much publicity beyond positive reviews.

People need to know about a game to vote for it.

To be fair, I've read hype news about Cup head for several years before its release, but not much about hollow knight.

But I still can't help the feeling I wished this game got more than what feels like an honorable mention.

Maybe team cherry needs to give away free copies to popular streamers.

Anyway, I'm still going to cheer for this company. I hope they get the recognition they deserve for such an awesome game

I understand what you want. You like this game so much you want others to appreciate it. You want the mainstream media to pick this game up so the devs possibly get more money and even make this game better.

But again the biggest problem with hollow knight and why its not incredibly popular is its barely advertised. I barely knew about this game before I decided to buy it as a just try it game.

Hollow knight probably didn't win anything because the game doesn't feel like it has much of an objective. You're just exploring to explore which is not much of a motivating goal when a lot of the first areas looks pretty samey. This, at least, is my impression of the game so far... Maybe it gets better at some point.

I struggle to play this game without some sort of background noise like music, podcasts or let's plays.

I would ask this what objective does cuphead have then? Just a string of bosses thats it with a basic plot.

The main characters gamble away their lives but if they do this one deed for the devil they're free to go on their way or so says the devil.

Simple things like this go a long way.

Can't even remember if there is anything like that for Hollow Knight. The only thing I can think of is that old man saying people traverse the depths below for treasure or something a long those lines.

Awards at this point are just a joke, just be the most noticed game, make the most noise and no matter how much better any of the other games is, you will win because people dont know ♥♥♥♥ about any of the other games

Dark souls also follows a very bare bones narrative. Like this game, you're not really given much background about what you are, why you're there or why anything is the way it is about the world around you. You find these things out as you play.

There's nothing bad for exploring for the sake of exploring. There's nothing wrong with fighting for the sake of fighting in fighting games. Or shooting things in FPS games. You don't need narrative necessarily to be a good game, and in that front, Dead Cells holds pretty much no narrative and is still considered by many as a good game. The same can be said of games like Spelunky.

For what they have done, I think many would agree that Team Cherry has done a really good job. I'm not sure where some get the idea that I'm the only one who feels this way and insinuate somehow that I felt it was unfair others didn't agree with me. This game has been widely praised by many critics; it's a good game.
